A lot of the sounds used in Halo are Recognizable from a mile away. Make the sound of a Needler or a BR, and I’ll tell you which is which in a heartbeat. I feel like in Halo 4 and 5 a lot of this is not the case, because of the swift change in direction of the sound that you as a character make as well as enemies and weapons. Personally I would love the return of the original sound design from the Bungie Halos, but others like the new direction as well. Let me hear your opinions!
Well, I personally disagree; just because it doesn’t sound like what it used to, doesn’t make it any less recognizable to most players. I would argue that even if they returned to the old sounds, it still wouldn’t feel the same based just on how high quality the sound recording system is that they use. To me it’s not really a big deal, the game isn’t made unplayable just because things sound different from what they used to be.
I would agree with AgentMaryland93 above regarding sound recognition. Most of the weapons are very unique in their sound design, regardless of game. But I will agree with you that I would like to see the more iconic sounds return in some fashion. For instance, the plasma pistol from H4 was so radically different from the previous games that I thought it was a new weapon at first. That classic charging sound was completely replaced by a more digital sound and I don’t like it at all. Many, if not all, weapons received these changes and some were good while others were bad (I actually love the H4 AR sound).
So I guess I would prefer the old sounds on the whole, but wouldn’t mind a more blended approach. With the supposed return to classic art style, perhaps the sound design will have a rethink as well.
I would like some of the sound effects to revert back to old but just upgraded a bit.
I also like the classic sounds a lot more. However, once again, I think H2A did weapon sounds really well. The weapon sounds felt like an evolution of the classic sounds and I hope to see something similar for Infinite.

my hope is that everything just sounds a lot more metal and a lot less plastic.
The plastic problem has been in pretty much every Halo except Halo CE, which remains the most metallic looking and sounding Halo of all time, which is kinda crazy when you think about it.
I agree with everybody up top. I feel like the old sounds are very good, except they need to be upgraded and sound more, “metallic.” I feel like sound design is very important to Halo, and with Halo Infinite sort of going back to all the older games including 4 and 5, maybe take inspiration. Take from each gun sounded the most iconic and the best from each game, and add that into Infinite to be a sort of mashup of all the great and lovable sounds that each game had to offer. I also much prefer the old Halo CE shield sounds. The whole, “buuuuuueeeeeep,” just sounded so awesome and iconic and memorable.
