I was wondering what you guys think of the choice of composer for the audio design? Since Marty’s music was such a big part of the experience. Even my parents know the Halo theme and they hate sci-fi :-).
Also, if any of you have some great pieces by Tojima that I should listen to as a reference, please do tell, cause I really don’t know that much about the Metal Gear Solid franchise.

I loved the piece he used for the director’s cut of the Halo 4 trailer. Fit it much better than the one they had.
Only thing I don’t like about the director’s cut is that John doesn’t say “I’m here!”
Anyway, Awake from Castlevania: Circle of the Moon is a fantastic example.
In fact, all the music he made for that game is phenomenal.
Tojima was the audio director for Metal Gear Solid 4, but Harry Gregson-Williams composed the music for all of the games following the first MGS.
As much as Marty was a brilliant mind, its not like he’s the only person out there with a unique mind. From what I’ve heard I can be sure that he knows what he’s doing and that he is well within Marty’s level.
> Wow, I never even heard that music for the trailer before. Simply amazing… I like the deep ‘Inception-like’ booms in it.
>
> As for the Castlevania theme, man, that brought back some memories! I’ve been playing games with this guy’s music after all!
I’m not talking about the one they used for the E3 trailer.

Why not?
It seemed like a one shot deal, and pulling that grenade out of his -blam!- in the original trailer was kind of stupid in my opinion.

In a recent interview with two members of 343, they said that Tojima has a huge amount of respect for Marty and everything he’s done. They said he was trying to keep the music matching the series as well as the new experience. They also said that there will be familiar sounds as well as fresh ones. Needless to say I’m excited to hear what he does with Halo 4. He did a brilliant job as audio director for MGS4 and I’m sure he’ll do brilliantly on Halo 4.
Well, I can’t really form an opinion since we’ve only heard two songs. However, I can say I did enjoy those two songs they put out. (The Awakening and A New World)
I see a lot of people saying that Tojima composed the music featured on the Halo 4 “Awakening” trailer. Unfortunately, that isn’t true. I swear I read somewhere that the company who were working on that trailer hired an external composer for it.
Also the music ROBERTO jh linked to is the Fringe theme, yes. BUT, however, it’s not the official version composed by JJ Abrams (Yes, JJ Abrams wrote the theme to Fringe); It was composed by the youtube user called Torley. It’s still amazing though.
I’m sure Tajeen (as 343 call him) will do an amazing job. I just hope he brings back some recognisable themes, not just the main theme but like Peril, A Walk in the Woods, The Last Spartan etc.
