Something which can easily be revolutionary.

There is something 343 can do which can easily be revolutionary for shooters and games in general ON CONSOLE. I don’t believe this feature has EVER been done for any game for console though it is probably on every PC game ever made. This is a feature we as a community have been dying for and many have requested it. It would put an end to the concerns of the various control schemes in Halo 4.
Yes I think you know what I mean by now, CUSTOMIZABLE BUTTONS/KEY BINDING.

This is a feature Halo 4 NEEDS. It would do wonders for 343. Us Halo veterans would have the option of changing what we don’t like about the new controls and would be able to play any function with any button. PLEASE PLEASE implement this. I believe this to be one of the smallest requests out there by the community. Of everything people want from you, I don’t believe this to be a incredibly demanding thing to ask. If you did this, it would have an incredible effect on console gaming and Halo would be a role-model for a lot of games once again in some way, just like regenerative health, the 2 weapon system and a lot of other ground-breaking things throughout the Halo trilogy which has shaped nearly every shooter afterward.

Thank you for listening, please support this thread if you can. I only want the best for Halo

I agree; custom control mapping would be a wonderful thing to experiment with.

Fallout 3, Brink, and probably Fallout: New Vegas.

Frankie’s already talked about the amount of work and glitches associated with customizable buttons.

That ↑

But yeah, we NEED customisable controls in Halo 4!

Would be awesome, but unfortunately 343 has confirmed that control schemes in H4 will not be fully customizable.

343 already said they won’t do this because it increases the chance of people finding exploitable button layouts. They did say however that there will be large variety of preset layouts to choose from.

Bethesda understands the importance of this, but not many other developers do. I’d love to see this too, because I mostly play on PC, and am used to being able to custom map my buttons for my Xbox controller.

They may not be fully customizable, but maybe customizable in some way like taking the pre-determined control schemes and being able to swap a button or two if you’d like in order to fit your playstyle.

Ex. Like a Recon 1 and Recon 2 where you’re able to swap whether AA or Sprint is LB instead of X, but all other buttons remain the same.

Yep, New Vegas has em’. Having put in over 400 hours of gameplay I should know, none of my friends can play on my settings.

I believe Portal 2 does as well.

There are various other games on consoles that have had it, as well. It’s nothing new, you’d think Halo and other shooters would have it by now.

If I’m not mistaken, Republic Commando had them way back on the original Xbox in the mid-2000s.

Oh, I never knew they had it.

Skyrim has it too.

As much as I’d love to see customizable button layout, I know it’s already been confirmed that they will not be in Halo 4. I really think that every game should have them. There are so many games out there now and they each have their own control scheme, it would be much easier on players if you could set the same control scheme for every game.

Exploitable button layouts? Like, Halo 2-style animation canceling?

If that’s really a concern, then I think they might actually be doing it wrong. They should be running checks for cancels and those sorts of things on the functions that the buttons trigger (reload, shoot, etc.), not directly in the code that handles button presses. What button triggers what function – that should have no bearing on the matter.

How could I forget about Portal 2?!

They already confirmed that it would be too time conauming and difficult to find and fix all the glitches and bugs that will come with fully customizable controls.

Perhaps customization with some locked down buttons, it would decrease the amount of combinations they’d have to check.
