Master Chief seems to be just a victim in Halo 5. Being hunted by Locke while trying to cope with the aftermath of Cortana’s death. It’s quite the pressure and so far we haven’t seen any of John’s motives. Does he even care that ONI sent Locke after him?
So what is Master Chief’s goal in Halo 5? I doubt he simply wanted to take a road trip with Blue Team. If Locke were to ask him what he’s been up to, what do you think he’d say? Can you see him threatening Locke? Or would he just ignore him until it came to a fight?
What would make him oppose Locke? “You’re coming home, Chief. Come with me before I drag you back.” Chief- “Hmmm no thx I got stuff to do…thaaangs…”
This is obviously the big mystery behind the game so I don’t expect anyone here to actually know the answer. But how do you think Chief would view Locke? Would he underestimate him? Ignore him? Would he be in a talking mood? Would he be reluctant to fight Locke or would he see him as just another thing standing in his way?
Is Blue Team passive to his group? Would another Spartan be risking his life just by trying to approach one of them? How does Blue Team affect John’s judgment? Would they make him more ruthless or would they be bothered by seeing him fighting another human, another Spartan, specifically. Speaking of Blue Team, do they even have a say about becoming deserters? How do they feel about being hunted? Are they questioning John’s motives as well, or is their history together enough to keep them from asking questions? Are they going to see John become more and more reckless and destructive? Would they do anything about it?

Well, they seemed quite hostile towards each other in the trailers.
And I think Locke will have a direct approach if the Chief doesn’t know he’s being hunted. He will probably state his objective right away, but Chief won’t be interessted in stopping his own mission.
I have a feeling that Chief already knows about the “new threat” that Locke is hunting him down to stop, and that Chief has been working with Blue Team to stop it on their own because large-scale UNSC involvement would be counterproductive. So Chief is working with Blue Team to eliminate the new threat, while Locke and his team hunt down the Chief to bring him back so he can eliminate the same threat.
I think Chief and Blue Team will get close to stopping a catastrophe when Locke and company catches up and derails their plan, resulting in disaster. This would lend some credence to the live action trailers we saw - Chief blames Locke for getting in his way and preventing him from stopping a catastrophe, and Locke is mad at Chief because if he would have told the UNSC instead of going AWOL the whole thing never would have happened.
