What does 343GS mean when he says
“Why would you hesitate to do what you’ve already done? Last time you asked me, if it were my choice, would I do it? Having had considerable time to ponder your querey, my answer has not changed.”
What does he mean “Last time you asked me?”
Now I’ve read all of the novels, played all the games and I’m still confused on this part. Sorry if I missed something
I’m fairly sure he means the Forerunners. I always just assumed that a Forerunner had asked him what he would do before activating the Rings and GS was just comparing the two.
Since humans and Forerunners are almost identical it would make sense, either that or I’ve missed something entirely :I
That’s what I thought too. I was just hoping I didn’t miss anything serious, or that they’re having Master Chief ignite the Halos in Halo 4 having gone back in time or some nonsense like that (Since we all know 343i would NEVER do that! Right?
I’m kinda starting to think that the answer may be with the forerunner saga.
But we’ll have to wait until the third one to find out for certain.

Agreed. GS was rampant, odds are he recognized the Geas that humans have implanted granting us the Mantle and confused the Chief for a Forerunner. Like, how he says that the Chief is a Forerunner at the end of Halo 3. He’s not, he’s a human. But all “Reclaimers” have the Mantle, which means they are, effectively, Forerunners in role.
343 is very strange…

I thought he said “last time they asked me”. and also, “my answer has now changed”.
It changed b/c he originally would not want to fire the rings (which I think Primordium agrees with), but he now believes it the only answer to the flood.
I think when he says “what you’ve already done”, well we haven’t gotten that far in the books yet so it could mean several different things all of which are very spoilertory. This thread seems to be spoiler free, so I won’t mention any of my thoughts.

I wonder why he would confuse them? Maybe there is something to that.
^^Yeah that’s what I was thinking. It is entirely possible that a human activated the array. After all, the Forerunners, at some point, give humans legacy Reclaimer status.
Also, I think it’s worth pointing out that Guilty Spark was possibly split into multiple AI’s, and this particular one has been alone for a very long time, and so he’s probably not entirely in his right mind.
Maybe he wasn’t talking to John at all. Maybe he was talking to someone inside John.

Yeah, I’ve been trying to think of who will be in John; will it be someone epic and that is why John is essentially the savior of Halo, or is it someone less important or no one at all and John is awesome all by himself.
I hope not Forethenco, I really don’t like some of the decisions he makes at the end of Primordium (but my opinion of him could change after the Forerunner Saga is finished).
Spark does seem to confuse the Chief with someone from his past a lot. It could be the Didact, a different Forerunner, or an Ancient Human, or something different. That or it could just be an effect of his rampancy, that we learn of for sure in Anniversary’s terminals.
Why do the forerunner AI consider humans reclaimers? I thought the forerunners were at war with the humans?

They used to be. As of primordium, the forerunners responsible for carrying out the rest of their duties are supporting humanity.
I think the didact asked chakas/343 if he would fire the array if it was his choice… and i aslo think didact is alive so i dont know why 343 would say that to chief! I think that will happen and be explained in the final book.

I like your thinking.
Maybe the soul of Riser resides within John, and sometime in the 3rd Foerunner Book, Riser is made to activate the Halo Array with 343GS with him.
Maybe Riser asks 343 if ‘he’ would activate it, given the choice?
