Something That Baffles Me

Melees were nerfed across the board in order to “nerf” the mangler specifically. Then, to make ranked/hardcore “better”, the melee value for the BR was increased as though it were a bladed weapon IN THAT MODE ONLY.

BUT pros are still engaging in their Gentleman’s Agreement to not use the Mangler at all, along with avoiding drop shotting in tournaments…

So what was the nerf even for lol

They fundamentally changed a major gameplay mechanic and didn’t even address the source of the problem. It was so convoluted and unnecessary the way it was handled. The Mangler’s over availability was the issue, not how strong the weapon was. It was such a fast respawn and more than one showed up on most maps, so it was a constant threat every match.

They could have just moved it’s spawn to a central location like a power or tier 2 weapon, they could have made it so that it doesn’t respawn until it despawns or is used up, they could have changed the rate in which it spawns so it’s not so constantly available…a myriad of things.

But they made a change that didn’t address the main problem pros had with it and it’s still left on the rack because they feel it’s unfair in a competitive setting.

So, to restate the question, what was the nerf even for?

The nerf was so the sweats could ruin the fun for people who liked using weapons other than the BR, as always. Been that way since H2.

People still use every other weapon in pro tournaments though. For tons of money. That should explain that the issue isn’t the BR and never has been. I don’t understand the whole “all sweats care about is the BR” when I see pros using the disruptor pistol and Needler for goodness sakes.

My main point is that 343 missed the mark with what people had issues with regarding the Mangler. The two shot drop combo is still broken and that’s why pros don’t even pick it up, because they agreed it’s not balanced.
