Something tells me I'm not gonna like this.

So be me.

Longtime Halo fan, been playing since day 1 essentially.

Got H4 at midnight release, played the crap out of it for about a month, decided I gave it enough time to form an opinion, which was ultimately negative, and set it down.

1 year later.

Have I missed out on anything important?

There was a weapon update, new gametypes, new DLC (that like 2% of the Halo population bought), and new Forge maps.

The weapon balance has added more variety, in matchmaking. The most common weapon is the Battle Rifle, for mid-range encounters, but the Covenant Carbine gives it healthy competition. In long range encounters, the Light Rifle is now superior. Essentially, the DMR is now scarcely used. A new sports-like game-type has been added to Halo 4. Ricochet is a game similar to Griff Ball, but it has a few interesting features. Aside from running in the ball into the goal, which are called touchdowns and are worth 50 points, you may also throw the ball to the goal, which are worth 20 points. Also, weapon load-outs are allowed this game-type, which make this game arguably tactical. There are plenty of minute changes that have occurred over the course of Halo 4’s first year, but they are not as significant (e.g. game tournaments and playlist rotations).

Ricochet sounds interesting. I might have to check that out.

I heard they tweaked the BR to be a four-shot kill again.

Also, how’s the population these days? I haven’t heard good things about it in the last couple months.

The game’s probably done with getting updates so this is as best as it’ll get. And right now I love it.

People say because the population is low that’s a bad thing. Look, if you can find a match in one minute like you always can, it’s no big deal.

I agree, Halo 4 has significantly improved since launch and I am very pleased.

For me, it’s not a big deal that the population is low but it’s a big problem how most of my friends don’t play Halo 4… even Waypoint community members.

Yeah its really too bad what the last 2 games have done to the community. Basically nobody on my friends list plays Halo anymore, and most of the 100 of them were met while playing Halo 2+3.

I mean hell, custom games used to be a huge part of the Halo experience, now I have like what, 3 custom games on my H4 service record?

I really hope they can do something to bring the community back, because without it, Halo is seriously lacking, regardless of gameplay. Thats one thing I think Bungie understood really well.

I was in the same boat as you. Set the game down after the first month and just started playing again a week or two ago. The best changes IMO:

  • 4 Shot BR! It felt so good to kill players in 4 shots again.
  • Lessened the range of autolock on the rifles - better for map movement.
  • Legendary Slayer BR - best new gametype (BR/AR start and no loudouts) - apparently it used to have its own playlist which is too bad cause I missed out on that.
It’s a better game since the release but it had it’s negative changes too like making the AR/Storm rifles more powerful. Overall I’m glad I started playing again. I hope you will be too.

The AR actually works now instead of taking an entire clip or more like it did in the beginning and how it was in Reach.

There are still 6 different fuel rod cannons out at any one time on Solace and SAW drops are rampant, but overall the game is 200 times better than back when you played.

The red X is back and it works.

Killcam is still broken.

The maps are still lame for the most part.

No real ranking system so quitters are still a big problem. JIP is better but still not ideal.

Hard to get a good capture the flag game because after the first score, people quit. Then the JIP’ers quit when they see they got put onto a losing team.

Slayer is great but the only solid playlist for me is SWAT. I get great games 8 of 10 times where you get punished if you miss your first shot and no BS. If you get a head shot, you get a head shot, unlike Reach.

Only played for a month?

Well, Season One of Spartan Ops is finished. It seems the story of Spartan Ops will be continued through an ongoing comic series call Escalation.

Issue #1 is available digitally for $3.99 and is very good.

Well, that’s because when Bungie designed it they intended for players to have to use their grenades and melee along with it.

New DLC released after the Season pass including Pitfall remake in the Bullseye pack called Pitfall. New Weapons skins and armor like ODST and Mark V.

In june we had a big weapon tuning balancing the loadouts very good which made the BR 4 shot kill and 2 shot beatdown. Also new gamemodes and a rotational playlist.

Legendary Modes added in every gametype which include classic settings but with sprint and flinch.

Other patches to improve the game and more… Halo 4 is improved A LOT!

Red X is back and no more white indicators for buttons.

CSR returned but not in-game and not that great as it used to be.

I play it. I finished regicide commendation just a few minutes ago. I still have to get mongoose and scorpion kills as well as finishing flood.

Try playing a playlist that is not Team Slayer or BTB and see how long it takes.

This game has improved but it’s still not good. I keep trying to give it another chance but things that will NEVER get fixed like no descoping, loadouts, perks and sprint ruin it.
