343, Halo open world isn’t a looter shooter that would keep a player’s interest for a little while in wanting to keep playing, but players will get bored real quick when they realize there is literally nothing to do in the open-world other than achievements and exploration. If anyone knows different please explain.
There are only so many times after a couple of months players will be able to say “this is fun” repeating the same process of shooting the same things over and over and over again, and when players collect everything as they have already through the campaign, how many times do you think players will run the campaign after the Hunny moon is over?
I’m reading posts about how easily players are completing everything and the lockers do not offer any incentive at all that I will have to leave them alone just to feel I have something to do other than explore and acquire achievements. If anyone has played Destiny even with the destination having loot to acquire, the destinations become boring and achievements can only go so far.
For obvious reason I don’t know what 343 has planed, but what are something that can be added to the open world to help keep that incentive/interest?
Exploration is a huge deal for Halo’s sense of wanderlust as well as for open worlds in general. Infinite’s open world is essentially making the “Halo”, “Delta Halo”, “The Ark” levels of Halo a truly open world to explore and for us to tackle objectives at our own pace, however we want, however we like.
So imo the best way to keep this open world “alive” is to add in co-op pve content in the open world down the road. The landscape is already there, now it’s time to add content to it, and I’m sure 343 has plans for just that in addition to Story additions down the road.
What I want to see :
Open world Firefight
These can happen at FOBs or certain conquered Banished Bases. Perfect replayability for multiple players partying up.
Loot caves
Little “mini dungeons” in the structures of Zeta where players can clear together as a party, or solo. Clear it to get rewards, or a new weapon. Or even an old one, for you to use in the PvE environment. This way it won’t affect the MP sandbox until they are balanced properly and ready for MP.
How it should be implemented
After each story chapter, Chief and the surviving marines have reclaimed these parts of Zeta for the UNSC to take a foothold in. This is when your Spartans that have been training in War Games in Avery Johnson Spartan Academy are allowed to ship in to maintain the foothold Chief has reclaimed for us.
TLDR: when you finish a Story Arc (for example our current Story Arc is finished with Silent auditorium) the entire map is now in “free play” mode where you are sent in as your MP Spartan instead while Chief prepares for his next move on Zeta. This will then let you use the entire Open world as a PvE environment for co-op.
Rewards
MP armors, accessories and skins are an obvious one, but I think there could be more than just that. How about some store credits? I think it would be EXCELLENT to let players earn Store credits this way.
- The players already bought the campaign
- They earn it by playing the campaign/PvE open world
- It lets players build up credits over time to buy what they desire from the store.
I can only see a Win situation for all if this was implemented.

It will be interesting to see when they add firefight and I’m guessing they are using the open world for the forge world. It’s the waiting part that sucks but it will help a lot along with the co-op.
Spartan Ops was a good thing in Halo 4 to where you had 4 players. I don’t know if they will do that but having a bigger fire team would be fun for missions, etc…
The one thing you mentioned that I would hope 343 considers is letting players build up credit to purchase items from the shop. The open would has a lot of potential and I’m curious as to what 343 does have planed, I just hope it’s not all tied behind the shop.
