Well, this thread is pretty much useless now. Snickerdoodle… lock? (:
This is why I love them.
who cares? quality is just as important as quantity.
plus your math isn’t entirely accurate, everyone will complete a mission at a different speed so saying that everyone or every mission for that matter will be 20 minutes long is kind of ridiculous.
Actually it is 15 minutes, so around 16 hours…
Thats a ton of fun game play for free – I would prefer MP but spartan ops might be fun from time to time
Although I wouldn’t pay for Season 2 or any other add ons for this .
They said that it would be the length of Halo 4’s campaign I think, so two months, and 15 minute missions sounds more likely.
5x15= 75 minutes per week
75x9(31+30= 63-1, so almost 9 weeks, 2 months, 61 days)= 675 minutes, around 11 hours.

funny you’d say that, I thought they were going to do something really interesting with spartan ops but apparently they aren’t.
I’m sure spartan ops will be great but I doubt it’ll be as good as it could’ve been.
if the spartan ops dlc would actually be interesting unlike season 1 is going to be (pure speculation I might add) then I wouldn’t mind paying for it.
Quality takes precedence over quantity, to me. But, from what I’ve seen, it should be pretty awesome!
Let’s also hope that the amount of time poured into creating Spartan Ops missions doesn’t detract from releasing any necessary updates!
I think that Spartan Ops will probably end up being average, pure speculation I might add.
Basically it will become like extended Firefight missions, with a story.
The amount of effort 343i put into this game mode will reflect the results.
We shall see.
I had a rough idea of this too. My thought in response to reading the details was “huh. So your solution to the problem of people getting bored and losing interest is to work yourselves to death slaving over more content – for free – for years to come? Well… if you think that’s best…”
That really seems like what they’re trying to do. It’s admirable and courageous. But I worry that it will be more than they’re ready to do, and/or that they’ll find the results unsatisfactory and make the work load lighter for themselves to bring it in line with their own metrics. That’s a worry, but so far it’s not an expectation.
I can’t wait for Spartan Ops, it’s going to be amazing.
Good math OP, but as others have said, players will be finishing faster and faster. Heck, speed runs are going to be busy trying both campaign and S.O. speed runs up-to-date. But I am also seeking good missions which are going to test players inside and out. The length of missions is going to be tough to accomplish, but hey, you never know what surprises are laying in wait around a corner.

It’s way more linear than Firefight, with a story and different objectives. I’m sorry it’s nothing like Firefight, it’s more of a Campaign.
I usually take 15 minutes as the number. I hope they mix quality and quantity!
How long does it take to complete mass effect on average? [not a rushing playthrough{

A 343i employee said 15 to 25 minutes, depending on the difficulty. I went with the middle number assuming people play, I dunno, Heroic. Obviously my math is extremely approximate, but it’s still a decent representation of what we’ll be getting. I’m just excited we’re getting all this new content for free.

a lot of people seem to think that spartan ops is a replacement to firefight, I found this to be inaccurate to say the least.
I’m glad someone else sees the difference.

Hence the term AVERAGE length. An average is an approximation of how long each mission will take based on the data of total time divided by number of missions. Of course this thread is based on an approximation of how long the time taken is since no one has seemed to record every mission. However odds are you’re going to play most, if not all, missions more than once which would mean more playtime with different experiences each time.

Something like this could revolutionize the whole video game industry (for consoles at least), I wonder if they’ll actually add stuff that will be one time things in different missions, (for example a vehicle specifically made for a mission and that mission only, or a weapon made for a mission and that mission only). If 343 wanted to, they could totally do that.

This is something I’ve been thinking about too. I’ve never heard of a game developer doing something like this, and the potential is… incredible.
The only problem I see is trying to navigate through 50+ unique missions. xD

I know, but don’t you think killing lots of enemies, going through story objectives, and blowing something up may not be that attractive in the long run?
Just a question…
