Something I'd like to say...

I can see this is going to be hit with a wall of flame, partly due to the topic but also due to my extremely low post count, but please, bare with me. I’ve heard a lot of discussion on these forums and elsewhere questioning decisions made for Halo 4, which 343 say will differentiate this game from the original trilogy, and also continue Halo’s evolution. In my opinion, so far the changes announced seem ok to me, I have an open mind and I don’t think 343 would intentionally change Halo’s style drastically.

Here’s where people will get angry…

Call of Duty: Black Ops 2’s trailer was released yesterday, it showed something I wasn’t really prepared for. But DAMN does it look cool. People have been saying since MW2 CoD needs to do something big to change things up. Well here it is, BO2 is so far from any CoD I’ve ever seen it could be passed off as a Tom Clancy game. All I hear is ‘LoLZ, TRAYERCH CoP3d H4L0, Not GoN BY’.

Why is there constant flame wars over what franchise, console or company is better? If you don’t like CoD no one is forcing you to buy it. Don’t like the gameplay, graphics, story etc. that’s cool, but don’t throw hate at me because I love both Halo and CoD (apart from Mw3, that was terrible).
What’s funny is that people don’t seem to want Halo to change, but complain when CoD doesn’t, and when it finally does everyone chucks a tantrum.
Just my two cents.

I don’t like cod because peer pressure makes some people (mainly noobs) think its great.
(Not saying you are BTW)
But apart from that its pretty decent for what it is,a bombastic millitairy fps.
(oh and 3arc are way better than IW)
and i agree kinda, let blops be blops. its sad people dont play halo, but then at least all the annoying people stay in cod… (modders, scammers, campers, map abusers, people who think they have skill even though there ust a higher level)
Not flaming, just giving my opion ;3
and yes fans should eave each other alone…

No kidding. I liked Black Ops, the second one looks pretty good too.

I see what you’re saying, there are so many idiots at my school who think CoD is a gift from god and is the greatest thing to ever hit the gaming market. These idiots, thankfully, don’t seem to like the new style, due to them being extremely dull and naive.

They also think halo is a little kids game, how people can be so blind/stupid is beyond me.

> Why is there constant flame wars over what franchise is better?

It’s mostly about personal preference and opinion. Also, some games have some cons that seem to stick out a like s sore thumb, for COD, it’s the fact that most COD games is the same engine, with no update, but new weapons, and story, every thing else is the same, released year after year. Halo, it’s the fan base, who is very hateful over very little things some times. Plus there’s the stereotypes that follow each franchise’s fan base, which can be true and false all at the same time.

> Why is there constant flame wars over what console is better?

This is a little more detailed… Every platform has it’s Cons and Pros.
PS3: Made by a Asian based company called Sony, has many small issues here and there, and tends to have crappy controls for FPS.
Xbox: is owned and build by Microsoft, most people believe Microsoft is a better software developer than hardware, Xbox LIVE’s user base is mostly full of hooting -Yoink- holed frat boys and little kids acting like manly men/girls.
PC: Full of wide spread hacking and piracy, a little more pricy than the Xbox and PS3 and harder to develop for because it’s changing every year, and not every one has the same specs, which causes problems some times.

But all 3 platforms has great games, and some even have cross platform MP. Also, these days all 3 platforms have more uses than just gaming.

> Why is there constant flame wars over what company is better?

This is a little more simple…
Some game companies are better known for how they support their community, and what their community is made up of. Let’s take Halo’s community. Halo was created by Bungie, who has had a long line of PC/Mac based games. Halo was originally developed for the Mac, then PC, and then was finished and released on the Xbox, which every one who jumped on the Bungie Bandwagon was a Halo Xbox fan. Halo is now being controlled by 343i, a child company/team housed by Microsoft, some people are happy, others, are in denial over Bungie leaving, and wants them back. It’s the slight change in game developers which upset the community. Now lets look at another company, Crytek, and their game Crysis, which was a PC based game, and now Crysis 2 is on the Xbox, which have pissed off a lot of Crysis fans because it has become multi platform, not many people like that. And similar cases has happened with the Halo community, but instead of them getting pissed over the game going Xbox, it’s the other way around.

Gamers do tend to be very grumpy people when things change.

What I meant to say is why is it necessary? I’m not saying people can’t express their opinion, if you don’t like call of duty it honestly doesn’t bother me, but I hate people telling me I’m WRONG because I like a game they don’t. I’m not aiming this at anyone in particular, but I just wish people would stop ramming their preferences and ideals down my throat.

I see what you are saying about CoD release strategy, with very little change. But the point of this topic was to point out the very unexpected and drastic turn BO2 has taken the CoD series. Sure the graphics are similar, but after reading several articles there have been some subtle changes i.e. improved lighting and full body motion capture. The gameplay is similar. But if it changed too much it would cease to be CoD, which I might add the Halo fan base has a similar attitude with their favourite game.

With IW in tatters (serves them right for basically remaking a game they made two years previously), treyarch is taking CoD down a new road that will, in my mind, keep me playing for another year.

It’s both necessary, and not necessary.
It’s necessary to give companies competition with other companies, but it’s also not necessary to fight over silly things like which game is better, which developer is better, or which console is better.

> What’s funny is that people don’t seem to want Halo to change, but complain when CoD doesn’t, and when it finally does everyone chucks a tantrum.

Here is an obvious and logical reason. Halo is balanced, simple, easy to grasp, and rewards skill. CoD is none of the above.

I don’t care about the people who love COD, I don’t care about the people who hate COD, the only ones I care about are those that bash every single COD game, saying how bad they all are, how boring and repetitive they all are etc. only to have formulated their series encompassing opinion by buying each and every game in a series they confess to hate. It makes no freaking sense! If you hate something as much as you say, why do you keep buying it?

I think it looks terrible.

BO2 looks different to me.

If I see promising gameplay then I may buy it.

No offense I.W, but Treyarch is better at making CoD (Because of the changes they are making to BO2amongst other reasons.)

And I won’t hate you for playing both. It’s just CoD has been going down hill in my opinion.

I don’t want to play COD because it’s just too realistic for me. I play video games to get away from the real world, and I like Halo because none of it could ever happen. I don’t care if people like COD, though. There are other games besides Halo. You like COD, I like Gears of War. It’s really no different.

I’m not really sure why the Halo community hates COD so much, but I guess it’s because it doesn’t change much, and Halo is always changing. Personally, I don’t think people actually know what they want in a game. They think they do, but they don’t know how the things they think should be in a game will work with everything else in the game. The developers do, and that’s why they make the game the way it is.

Be glad you posted this in General Discussion. If this had been in the Halo 4 Forum, you would’ve gotten flamed like nobody’s business.
