In the beginning of the 5th terminal, it has a conversation between Faber and The Librarian.
Faber:“The Flood cover more of our galaxy with each passing day. They feast on the essence of life itself. The only way to stop their advance is to remove that life from which they feast.”
The Librarian: “My Lifeworkers have made plans for the reseeding of humanity, and of all life after the Halos are fired.”
Faber: “So you agree that Halos are our only solution.”
Now did anyone else notice that they said Halos, the Forerunners didn’t refer to them as Halos, rather as Fortress Worlds.
I think fortress worlds were worlds like requium, though it’s been a while since I’ve read the books.
> I think fortress worlds were worlds like requiem, though it’s been a while since I’ve read the books.
This is exactly right. Shield/Fortress worlds are just like requiem. The called halos simply as, “The Array” in the books.
Um no shield worlds are planets like onyx and requiem not the halo rings
i need to read these books i always feel so left out during these conversations
Chakas called it a Halo in the second Forerunner novel.
> i need to read these books i always feel so left out during these conversations
Halos= The Array. They are known to be called by both names by the Forerunners and later, humanity/The Covenant.
Shield World= Requiem, Onyx etc.

You can also check out the Halo wiki first to catch up on the main plot points/lore. Then you can look for the specific novel if you want later.
I think Cortana calling installation 04 a Foretress World in the first halo is the only time they are called a Foretress World.
Guilty Spark in halo 1 uses the terms halo, ring, and installation interchangeably.
Its possible the halos are merely a type of Foretress World.
