Something I noticed about the "GRD" Helmet

I got a little long winded, so check out the bold section.

I currently believe that if any additional future armor exists, it will be unlock- able via waypoint with a certain milestone in your Halo career.

I’d like to believe that the fabled “GRD Helmet” is a collection of existing attachments on top of an existing base in an order we have never seen before. I don’t know which attachments or which base, but that’s what I think. I believe it is something that 343 experimented with, as a way to add (what would look like new armor) to the current maps. From everything I have read, the armor, weapons, etc are all programmed into each map, and near impossible to add after.

To create an analogy, adding new armor (or weapons for that matter) into all maps across the board, would be like adding a chimney in the middle of a house, that’s already built. It’s possible, but the time, effort, and cost aren’t worth it.

Now the point of my post. Everyone remembers the photo of the GRD helmet from the defiant map pack. Just Google image search “GRD Helmet” if you don’t know what I’m talking about. This photo was the face of the defiant map pack, it was everywhere! It was on the XBL dashboard, and countless Internet articles.
Check those same sources now. Look at the link listed right here on Waypoint, up top, under “Intel”, and click “Halo Reach” and look at the gallery, look up the Defiant map pack. You’ll find photos, but all pics with the GRD helmet are gone. Look up the Defiant map pack on XBL.com and on the console market place. All photos of the helmet are gone. You’ll find photos from stuff printed and published back in February and March, when the map pack was new, but nothing that currently promotes the sale of the map pack.

This could be for many reasons, because the previous photos leaked something that was supposed to be a surprise. Or the most likely out come, helmet got cut from the final versions.

Show me one attachment which has a perfectly rounded big orange “thing” on the right eye ^^

It’s a new helm. With existing parts you could easily tell which parts where used. But this “GRD” helmet looks so strange, it can’t be build from stuff which is in the game. GRD is only a teaser or a marketing gag.

Probably got cut because it looked limited.

edit Um, limited is not the word I chose to describe that helmet. Interesting censoring tool, 343.

This thing was in a flythrough of Battle Canyon (not the Achievement Hunter’s one, it was an older vid). I guess we’ll have to wait and see.

Edit : here is the vid :

look at the comments, too

I really think that helmet most likely got cut.

I will say this, I’ll hold off my final decision until CEA comes out. If after that we see 343i employees playing in game with it on, then sure, maybe later we can get it doing new Vidmasters or something.

But I’d say if 343i employees aren’t wearing it in game after CEA drops, it’s just never going to be in the game.

psst. that helmet is ugly and was cut from ideas for armor dlc.

I would love 343 to just tell us what the deal was one day. I never really cared for that helmet in particular. It is the mystery that has me hooked on the subject. I really hope one day they tell us all about it.

They really have some tricks up their sleeves waiting for us. They did discuss a certain hidden Easter egg relating to waypoint in the latest podcast. My guess is the doll on Battle Canyon might unlock a helmet within waypoint once you find it. Whatever happens, Anything new will be implemented through waypoint. We just gotta wait a few more days to find out.

The most recent pod cast? I think that was for waypoint via the Windows Phone, and I belive it was like ODST ring tones or something, but I could be wrong.

This interview is rather revealing on the subject. Plus the fact you can tell that poor David is blatantly lying and is trying really hard not to reveal anything he shouldn’t!

Here ya go! Listen in and they will discuss new Anniversary matchmaking settings and hint to the Easter Egg that unlocks via waypoint!
November Edition 343 Sparkast!

What if they put on new disks so a modder couldn’t just well mod and get it. So you would have to get a new disk to get the GRD helmet.

The new disk would need to be compatible with the old disk, otherwise you wouldn’t be able to play with those on the old disk.

You mean the day pigs fly rite? They’ll never tell us anything!

I just didn’t think of that. But what about that really long update the day Halo cea came out? I know my xbox wasn’t slow because I just erased tons of stuff.

It wasn’t a long update for me at all, was done in seconds.

But the update was to fix some graphical bugs and add Kinect support, as it wasn’t shipped on the disk.

I guess ur right, but I don’t undestand you can get it though a glitch.

Get what through a glitch?

This ‘GRD Helmet’, you know, the one that is being discussed in this thread…?

If you play in multiplayer and you have a hologram and you have someone kill you when you activate it you might get the grd helmet. Thats because when you die the game creates a radomly created hologram.
