We are over a year after release and the game has only just started reaching the point where it should’ve been at release. Not quite there but getting close. This poses a serious problem for the future of Halo Infinite. If it took this long to fix a lot of the problems and add in basic features (not all of which are fixed nor are all the basic features yet present) and the game already had years of development prior to release, how can we possibly expect the game to operate on a realistic live-service schedule and model?
Development has consistently under delivered over and over and over again on promises, advertisements, and content. We have seasons that last half a year, a very small number of game modes (especially for a Halo game), absolutely no multiplayer PvE (like Warzone Firefight in Halo 5), extremely limited customization, still having desync, hit registration, and other bug issues, no couch co-op campaign, a number of campaign connectivity issues and bugs when playing online co-op, Forge is in beta, and a fairly empty world to explore in the Campaign with little to do outside the missions themselves.
At what point does the game start becoming what it was advertised to be? At what point does it become “Infinite”? Communication on the plans for the game have been so quiet it’s deafening and it’d be tough to trust those plans anyway because much of the communication we’ve received to this point has been misleading or inaccurate. At the current rate, Halo Infinite might be in a state that’s ready for release by this Summer. Maybe the end of the Summer. A year and a half after release it will hopefully finally be where it should’ve been to begin with. So if it took close to a decade to get it to this point, how can we have high hopes for the next 6 months? Year? 3 years? What has to change for Halo Infinite to evolve into its full potential?
What needs to change is the player base needs to stop blindly supporting 343 hoping they’ll get get better some mythical day.
Its a decade. Broken release, slow updates, missing features. This is 343’s way of doing things. MCC took 6 years to get decent and all that had to do was fix the games they broke.
And if the rumours / leaks are true about S3 and beyond… then there is hope going forward.
I think we still need to see some improvements on the desync front…
So… I’m cautiously waiting for 343 to come out with a road map for the rest of 2023.
And as for the now vs then argument. It’s a sunken cost. Sure, there there is a lot to be disappointed and frustrated about. Personally I’ve still found a LOT of enjoyment in Infinite despite it’s slow jump (or should I say limp) out of the game. But all you can do is take the game at it’s face value now… and weigh up where it’s heading.
To be fair MCC launched a year before Halo 5, then all focus was on Halo 5 for the next 3 years, then a year after H5 support ended MCC got picked up again. In reality it was only 5 years, but the reason it took so long was because MCC was originally just supposed to be H2A, but MS wanted a collection game last minute. The only thing I blame 343 for regarding MCC is the scheduling of the release. It wasn’t a good idea to release it a year before the next mainline Halo.
I read something yesterday about the player to server connection being patched in the update for s3. What that means not to sure but last few days have been insanely inconsistant with servers. Major spikes constantly all game and getting matched out of region for no reason constantly. After reading that, there’s a twinkle it gets better but… ugh… love the game hate the servers and messed up sbmm. Need to deal with that too many ppl at high levels can’t play and always seem to be on my team lately let alone getting platinums which is ridiculous considering the other teams are all low onyx high diamond pfft. Here’s to hoping
