Something happened to the matchmaking system

So I was playing the slayer playlist like I have been for the past 2 years and I was ranking up steadily for the most part, up to around onyx 1715. I was on a winning streak for a while and noticed my rank seemed like it wasn’t really changing. I checked to see 1716, then played another game, and it was 1717, then another two as it went to 1718 and 1719, so i knew something was wrong. Then I lost a game finally because of a random teammate going like -15 or something and I noticed my rank dropped down about 15 points, and then after winning again then losing again for a while my rank kept dropping around 15 or what seemed like 20 points. I just decided to quit because I had no motivation to play since my rank would only plummet.

I don’t think this has anything to do with how the ranks are balanced because I was playing multiple games with onyxs and diamonds on both sides, and before yesterday (after the matchmaking update), I was bouncing up about 10 points every time all the way up to 1780 just for beating platinums and diamonds, sometimes even golds or bronzes. So why wouldn’t I get 1 CSR point then? I even took pics of my rank as it was increasing in the onyx rankings.

There is clearly something broken about this playlist or the matchmaking system right now. I even played a couple games of HCS and both sides were all platinums, and my CSR wouldn’t move when I won, but lost half a bar when i lost. someone on my friends list even messaged me saying “hey man, slayer playlist is broken isn’t it?”

If this continues, I’m simply gonna quit playing halo 5. Matchmaking isn’t really fun when I don’t have anything to strive for. If I don’t have to even try to win against my opponents then I’m not gonna push harder to improve and the whole competitive aspect about it that makes halo 5 appealing is gone.

This thread in the matchmaking section should fill you in on what’s going on.

can someone explain what MMR is?

A system developed by 343 to make good players not match bad ones so the bad ones don’t whine. In other words, no one finds games, and they’re all sweaty as yoink

can I get an explanation of how it works and why its causing me to derank so harshly?

When you reach a point where you only gain 1 from a win, the devs say that your csr isn’t reflecting your actual skill, your csr is inflated and your rank is lower that what you actually have. They also said many champ and onyx players are much lower than the rank they got due to a bug. The sudden outrage of “why are champs facing me? I’m only daimond!” Was answered by “those are actually daimong tier players. Their rank is inflated and incorrect.”

This systems basically trying to bring everyone down to where “they belong”. I was in the forum discussing this too, and for slayer I reached daimond 4 and then began noticing I wouldn’t really move up. When I lost, the bar decreased by a significant amount though. So I hopped on that forum, the dude said my actual skill level was daimond 1, and that I’d need a 94% win ratio to stay where I was at. I mean…I have good games, ok games, and bad games. I tilt sometimes, and sometimes I play really well. I also play by myself a lot.

Naturally, this was very discouraging to read for me. There’s no way I’ll win 94%, but they basically were like "it’s a tough pill to swallow for some players being told you aren’t actually the skill level your current rank is, but don’t you want your actual correct rank displayed, and have the fair neck to neck matches?

I do want all of that, but the problem is the sense of progression from wins is gone. So…why play? I suggested why not just reset the season? I felt its much better to redo the 10 match placement, put us in our general tier we should be in, and go from there. Right now, Its my belief most players feel like you. Sorta like “why even play right now?” Though I was told it was left as(the current season remaining) is with a remedy that came out to pretty much scale down everyones inflated csr to reflect there mmr or true rank. Whatever it’s called.

So ending…I understand why it’s being done, and have seen those champ and onyx players perform as diamonds (on the flipside I feel like I’ve faced true champs too though). I just wish a reset would take place because a lot of players might just put their controllers down.
