Something Halo Wars 2 needs to fix.

Whenever you search for a game in Halo Wars the teams can be really skewed, in many ways. You can have 3 generals against one general and 2 recruits or something of that same vein. Another thing that is really annoying with Matchmaking is team make-up when it comes to leaders. Having a team of 2 Covenant and one UNSC leader (like Cutter) against 3 UNSC of Anders is really an unfair match-up.

I am posting this because I just go done with a game where it was 3 Anders (myself being one of them) against 2 Cutter and a Forge. To make it worse it was on Fort Dean. Some maps tend to favor certain leaders over others and Cutter really gets a nice assist on this map with all the garrison towers and having navigation being really annoying for bigger troops like tanks and such. The game went over an hour and it ended up inevitably going in Cutters favor (double ODST drops and Cobras backing them up). Basically there was really nothing my team could do.

Please improve the team make-up in Halo Wars 2 with a two step process I came up with.

  1. When the game is released immediately start taking in stats on which leaders have the highest win-loss ratio and which have the lowest across different skill levels. Compare this data on several levels (leader win-loss by itself, leader win-loss with X and Y leader combination, etc.) then eventually come up with an overall team combination win-loss ratio. (Example: A team of Cutter, Prophet, and Brute Chieftan on Fort Dean has a win-loss ration of 2.4)

  2. After a week or so start matching up teams so the team make-up has a overall win-loss ratio that is equal to the opposing team. So the win-loss ratio of 2.4 that one team has should get matched up with a team make-up that also has a 2.4 (+/- 0.5)

Sounds good and decently thought out and less of the usual knee-jerk reactions you’d expect.
I would’ve just suggested a temporary cool-down on all infantry hooks, but this makes sense.

No way! Double Cutter defeated you in in the late-game on Fort Deen??? <------ Sarcasm

I did not see that one coming! <------- MORE SARCASM

It’s virtually impossible to calculate and adjust the game as you described. If there were 100,000 ppl playing the game fine, but the population is somewhere south of 975. Halo Wars 2’s pop is gonna be much closer to 975 than 100,000. The matchmaking server doesn’t have a lot to work with.

You should have balanced the game yourself by not passively sitting for an hour and allowing Cutter to boom. Problem solved.

Until the game can stop someone’s 6 yr old sibling from logging on and playing 3v3, there’s always going to be unfair advantages. The cream always rises to the top in the long run.

In 3v3 Arranged, where you and your teammates actually work together this can be avoided, but not so much in 3v3 standard. What often happens is you have to try and prevent all 3 enemy players from booming by yourself while your allies sit back and do nothing. I understand, that’s not the game’s fault. It’s bad players, but since the game will more often than not get to that point, there needs to be a cooldown on hooks so these Cutter’s can’t drop ODST’s in non-stop and maintain hook control even when they are severely outmatched.
Pelicaning past the barriers can be an option, but isn’t always in these game types. Cutter’s have a ridiculous defensive advantage on Fort Dean.

the main thing I was frustrated with was being rushed. Also there wasn’t enough troops.
