Yea, shoving microtransactions down player’s throats and locking stuff behind a paywall is obviously harmful to the player experience however another thing that gets looked over a lot is that cosmetics should be something you’ve earned.
343 mentioned that adding in purchasable Spartan Points would be a way to give newer players a way to “catch up” but to me that’s a glaring problem. Why SHOULDN’T players who have been playing longer have more stuff unlocked? Imagine if Recon armor in Halo 3 or the Haunted helmet in Halo Reach could be obtained through just spending money, the value and sentiment of those armor pieces would go down drastically.
Back in the Halo 3/Reach days you saw someone with cool armor and you thought about how much effort or dedication they had to put in to get that armor. In Halo Infinite you see someone with cool armor and you think about how much that loser spent to get that armor. That difference is what makes microtransactions so terrible for video games and especially games like Halo where unlocking cosmetics is the main reward for progression.

This. Absolutely ridiculous. I’ve submitted a support ticket and I encourage everyone to do the same. We need to make them hear us through any means possible.

Its very depressing to see how low the franchise have fallen. Like you said players worked hard in order to unlock some very unique armors, they were prestigious symbols for your dedication and skills. The collection is supposed to be a celebration to Halo past glory, the last bastion of decency for the long time fans remaining. If we were not threated badly enough with the new “broader audience” policy we have to deal with this now?

I’ve never once looked at another players customization at ever considered how much effort they put into unlocking it.
The main issue with unlocks is that the rate of Spartan points is at a fixed maximum rate per month. With 12 points a week plus 20 from the monthlies it would be 68 points a month which means it would take you over a year to unlock everything, even with the first 100 tokens from tiers.
I could boot up a fresh save of 360 Halo 3 and unlock everything in a week, two weeks tops. The hardest part would be finding other folks to do the vidmasters. At least in H5 there was no cap on req points, you earn as much as you play.
Instead of telling players that they should pay for more Spartan points if they want to unlock stuff faster, they should be adding more avenues to unlock stuff. Throw in some daily challenges, unlock the rank cap, bump up the weekly amount, or award points every X matches.
