Someone Confirm?

I’ve seen the Watchdog coating being used on the Mark VII armor core and the Mark V GEN1 armor core.
Can anyone confirm that the coating can also be used on the Yoroi armor core?
I’ve heard a couple people say that coatings are armor-core restricted, but I cannot confirm whether or not that is actually true.

We won’t know until the game comes out, since they didn’t give any of us the ability to change cores in and out even

coatings can be applied to any armor from my understanding of the system (there has been no indicators saying “only for this armor”). So I find it highly unlikely you wont be able to use it on yoroi

As stated above we do not have any definitive confirmation to either side. However it is extremely unlikely 343 would reward players for a grind as immense as the 152 grind and then restrict them to using that reward on only a single of presumably several cores. It just doesn’t seem logical considering if they did make such a decision it is pretty foreseeable that there would be heavy backlash. While we could potentially see some core exclusive coatings at some point it is highly unlikely in my opinion that watchdog would be in any was restricted.

There is an indication. When you are in the coatings screen or the battle pass it says “Mark VII” in blue text next to the name of the coating.

That said, thats not a confirmation. But it definitely sucks if they intend us to unlock multiple copies of the same coating for different cores. It’s already pretty bad that you cant just get one coating and stick it on all your guns, vehicles, and armor right then and there.

Heck, you don’t even just get a coating that applies to all weapons, it’s individual on a weapon-per-weapon basis.

God this game is going to be full of coating bloat.

If you read each each piece armour, it has an armour core name next to it. So they can’t share pieces and colours but they could be released again but for a different armour.

why have one coating when they can sell you that coating 5 times. i 100% believe coatings will be core locked.

No confirmation from the devs yet. Dataminers have said they found code that restricts coatings to cores (as well as visor colors), but nothing official yet.

I would just curb your expectations for launch. There a very real chance that your favorite colors will never make it into the game and if they do they’ll never be available for your armor. While they said they play on allowing more cross-core compatibility In the future, Im worried that means selling us the same things over and over for different cores.

Best guess coating can be used across the board for armor cores no way 343 would limit each costing to a specific core

The limit is very much there for coating weapons right now. You can’t just get a weapon coating and slap it on all your guns, only the specific ones you got that coating for.

If Halo 5 was any indication, with how bad Warzone’s Loadout picking menu was, then yes, parts of Infinite will be a -Yoink- -Yoink!-. They’re terrible at designing intuitive user-friendly user interfaces & menus.

No, but those games didn’t use coatings, they were hand built alternate models.

Coatings are more akin to shaders in Destiny, everything has sections labelled to fall on a certain spot within a color pallette, and the coating rearranges that pallette.

So when you got a matching skin for two different weapons in Halo 4/5 you were getting something uniquely crafted, with different details and whatnot on it. When you get one in Infinite for two different weapons, you are literally just getting the exact same color pallette more than once.

This is why shaders in Destiny are universal. When you get one you can stick it on EVERYTHING. You don’t need a unique shader for guns, armor, vehicles, ships, ghosts etc. Halo Infinite’s should honestly be universal too. When you get Scorpion Punch you should just have it and be able to stick it on anything.

We’ve seen helmets be cross core. Mark VB for example was on a Mark VII body in one of the screenshots in the flight.

Ok, maybe it’s just the flight since only the newest core is available. But we’ll have to see.

but some coatings are multiple I saw that in the flight plus we saw only a few of them who knows how many there are

They are restricted by the armor core we use. In this way the creative team can have more freedom to bring us different types of armor sets. With enough variety within each of them.

No idea.
