Possible Halo Cryptum and Primordium spoilers. Can someone clear this up please?
In the Halo 3 terminals, we are told that the MB assaults the Maginot line with a ‘fleet’ of millions, which in turn forces the Didact to activate the rings before it’s too late.
After the rings are fired, OB and MB battle it out with the empty ships, which leads to OB winning and dismantling MB.
However… At the end of Primordium and in Cryptum, the Didact has a override code which can stop the MB. If the Didact could stop MB, then obviously it wouldn’t of been able to lead the ships through the Maginot line, which could’ve meant the Forerunners might’ve been able to hold their ground.
As you can see, I’m a little confused as to what is really happening.
Did anything in the terminals even happen, or should I just wait until the final book? I’m going to read the books again.
I honestly Don’t see how this confuses people. Clearly those events happen at the End of the War which the next book will cover. MB is being “Corrected” he isn’t being shut down, There will be Another Massive Gravemind which will Corrupt MB for the Last time.
i never read that he attacked with a fleet of millions tho that was a while ago so maby i forgot. but what the above guy said is correct the story is not done yet. their initial flaw was giving MB access to the domain. thats what corrupted him the first time around.

Halo 3 Terminals, Complicated, contradictory orders and the Primordial corrupted MB not the Domain.

I understand that MB didn’t attack the Maginot line until the end of the war, but if the Didact had a way to stop him, I can’t see why he didn’t…
and that doesn’t quite make sense. The same AI, getting corrupted… twice…? Gah. But you’re right. I’ll wait for the last book before I start to complain about this things.

Because he Didn’t, how was he to know that MB would actually Attack them?
I need to start being politically correct on this site…
Medicant Bias was never Corrupted the Didact Said Conflicting Orders confused the Machine which lead to said events. He was not Corrupted.
Now when the Terminals Get to the Part where he is talking about Destroying Forerunner Cities and how he enjoys it is when he goes to far. I will be precise and say that moment in Legends when he Turned From Green To Red is when he Was corrupted. In Primordium He was still Green even when talking to the Captive.
Its a very simple answer. The Didact’s code didn’t work. At the end of Cryptum (after the first Didact’s death) the Didact, through Bornstellar, uses the code on Mendicant, but for some reason, it only works temporarily, “paralyzing” him for a short period of time.
The simple answer is that the books have very poorly followed the canon that Bungie established within the games, and as a result, I have personally chosen to ignore any and all information that was not established in one or more of the games. The Forerunner Saga in particular, has, in my view, completely bastardised the continuity that Bungie worked so hard to formulate. To me, the terminals in Halo 3 represent the pinnacle of Bungie’s storytelling prowess, and anything that contradicts them is inherently detrimental to the overall tale that they attempted to present, and should be shunned. That’s my opinion, anyway.

1.The Didact fired because he could not get to the librarian. (His rescue party was shot down)
2.The majority of MB’s fleet was biological. And as far as im aware Biological things cant be halted by an override code.

You are a fool because it fits perfectly with IRIS and the Terminals, you just didn’t understand it to start with. And Bungie’s canon is FAR from perfect.

Did you just say that you are ignoring the Forerunner saga as Canon? I truly believe you are missing out on a ton of relevant information then. And to be completely honest, I don’t believe Bungie had planned on continuing after Halo3. Which is why the terminals seemed so closed ended. It isn’t that they are irrelevant now, it’s just that they are shuffled. The terminal with the Didact talking about making MB is before Cryptum. Some things are going to be reworked, but it isn’t detrimental to the story,if anything it is making the story better, and last much longer.
And don’t get me wrong, the storytelling was great, however if the terminals were the pinnacle of that, then everyone is in trouble. The terminals made more questions, and gave almost no answers. All it told us is that the Forerunners fought the Flood, and then they fired the Halos. The Forerunner saga is expanding on that premise. And making a more in depth back story for the Forerunners.
It’s not entirely clear if that was all of Mendicant that the Didact encountered in Primordium, of possibly just a part of the whole. We know from the terminals he can be present in multiple locations if he chooses to do so.
I personally think the bit the Didact gained control of may become Offensive Bias, no proof, just speculation.
As to why he didn’t pull the same trick later, presumably either MB or the Gravemind had found a way around that Achillies heel by that point, or Mendicant simply wasn’t communicating. He has gone rampant by that point.
Cryptum and Primordium (and whatever the third book is going to be called) most definitely rewrite the timeline of the Halo 3 Terminals, in which Bias was sent to fight the Flood and instead comes back and quickly assaults the Sphere; the Didact and company were unaware of his defection until he lead the Flood to their doorstep and forced the activation of the Halo Array.
Some of the events could still play out in the third book as they did in the Terminals, but everyone knows Bias defected before the Halo Array is activated as presented in Cryptum.
That said, the somewhat weasely way of explaining the issues between them is that all three sources–the Terminals, Cryptum, and Primordium–are told from the subjective points of view of different characters (the exact nature of the Terminals in unclear, but it seems to be Bias controlling the output to a degree.) So like Cortana’s recitation in “Origins”, it’s very much left up in the air exactly what happened.

They don’t Re-write anything since Dates are never given and it isn’t like personalities were changed cough
Bias never Defected. The Terminals Come directly from Bias, Didact, The Librarian, Filial devotion and Offensive Bias.

actually if you read primodial you’ll see MB state that he is acting on the wishes of the domain, something he says the forrunners have never done. as such it would point to the domain being the reason for his actions the first time around not the primodial.

Other than the Fact he was clearly working for the Primordial after Faber vanished and said the Forerunners weren’t doing justice. In which he used the Domain as support for that.
