Some Weapon Changes I'd Like To See

The first thing I’d like to see changed is the one everyone’s been complaining about, the new rocket launcher. I don’t have a problem with the new look but as many others have said the old design was very iconic and unique to halo. If it turns out 343i is making the SPNKR into a legendary weapon then disregard this, though I’d still prefer it if the SPNKR was still the standard and the new one was the legendary weapon.

The next is the Covenant Carbine. Most likely we’ll see it back in Halo 5, and assuming its a seven shot kill like the Halo 4 post-TU version I’d like to see it have a 21 round clip instead of the usual 18. The reason for this is because the BR is a 12 bullet kill with a 36 round magazine, which allows for three kills per mag if all rounds hit their targets. I’d like to see the Carbine have the same ability, and the DMR’s magazine increased back to 15 for the same reason.

Another major thing is the shotgun. This, just like the RL, was a weapon that received a major redesign, and I’d like to see it go back to looking like the original trilogy/reach versions, with the lights on the top and generally less angular design. But I’d also love to see it get back the 12 round magazine it had in CE and 2. A lot of hints suggest the flood may return and this shotgun having its large magazine back (The weapon that probably got a lot of us through The Library on Legendary) would be an awesome thing to fight them with. Assuming the Scattershot is going to return, I’d also like to see it get an increase, maybe to eight or even ten shots per magazine, for the same reasons.

Now for some older weapons I’d like to see back. For starters, the Plasma Rifle. Though supposedly replaced by the Storm Rifle, we have both the SMG and AR in game now so the PR could function as one of their counterparts. Say AR=SR and SMG=PR.

Another is the grenade launcher. A well liked weapon in Reach, I felt like the Sticky Detonator in Halo 4 didn’t really fill its role as well, so I’d like to see the GL come back in its place instead. Having both in the sandbox could work, but I don’t think many would like the sandbox clutter.

The final thing I’d like to see is a return to having more mounted turrets around as “semi-power” or tier 2 weapons. We saw a lot of turret use in Halo 3, when the ability to rip off mounted turrets was introduced, but not as much since then. And with the new movement and evasion abilities I feel turrets are going to need a bit of a buff to stay relevant. I think both mounted and ripped off versions should be able to kill very quickly. They should also be placed on more maps, especially in BTB, to encourage people to use them more often. Having a forerunner turret type weapon would also be a nice addition as well (perhaps the Focus Turret from H4?).

To those that read through, what do you think of these changes?

Someone, talking about the Carbine? And making it better?

What year is it?!

(Yes to making the Carbine better, poor thing needs love)

Yep the Carbines been my favorite since H2. I think its about time it gets some love

On a side note I’m very interested to see what Smart Scope looks like for it.

I’ve been lovin’ hard on that Carbine in Halo 4 … okay, that sounded weird, but it’s my go-to gun in that game. I only use a BR when I need to get serious (playing against people who are better than me, so kinda often).

OP: People say they want the SPNKR back because it’s not just a tube, but at the same time they want the old shotgun which is just a tube.

I say “no tubes” … old SPNKR & new Shotgun.

I’m more for getting the old RL back then the old Shotgun. I can live with the new design, but seeing the beautiful old design remastered in H2A just makes me miss having it. Its not really a huge thing, but I felt it was worth mentioning.

You hit the nail on the head here. I thought that I was the only one who noticed that the Carbine gets less kills in a single clip than the BR. I’d also like to see Halo Reach’s Grenade Launcher come back. What I like most about that one is, unlike the Sticky Detonator, it can easily bounce around corners. Not sure if the Hydra can do that, though. I never had a chance to use it. I’ve recently played Halo 4, and was reminded of how useless the Supressor was. I hope that they buff it, but make it so that it isn’t just a flashy version of the AR.

The suppressor was definitively the weakest of the H4 automatics. Hopefully if the trend with the Light Rifle in the beta continues, we’ll see the suppressor as a tier-two weapon placed on maps. Perhaps as an AR upgrade like the LR is a BR upgrade.

Not a fan of the new rocket look. Though I won’t raise hell about it like I’ve seen done elsewhere lol

i like the light rifle in h5

bring back the flamethrower!!!

wasn’t a fan of the carbine on h4 x360 version, but use it a lot on h4 mcc

good idea, more mounted turrets (on some maps) would be great

The light rifle was one of my favorites in the beta. There was nothing more satisfying then getting that perfect 3 shot kill.

It would be great to have the flamethrower back but it seems to be a hard weapon to make effective in halo. From what I’ve used of the H1 flamethrower its not very effective, and the H3 one is even worse.

They would have to make it very powerful with all the movement options available now.

… wow It hadn’t even thought about the Smart scope for covenant weapons… Maybe that’s why we didn’t see any, because 343 is still figuring it out themselves. I assume that it would kind of have to look like the old Halo scope right? Covenant scopes are literally just screens that you put your eye up to… So, they would literally just be like the original Halo scope that we were used to from all the previous Halo games. But what about the plasma pistol? And the Needler? I assume that the needler might be like the type of scope we got with the H5 assault rifle. For that matter, I assume that all weapons like the AR that can’t really have a traditional scope method like with a BR or Magnum will be how they handle weapons like the needler. The boltshot will probably be like the magnums smart scope… hm… Thinking about how they will handle certain scopes is rather intriguing to be honest.

I would like the sound of the Hydra firing changed. I could rarely pick up the fact I was being shot at by a power weapon. I love the sniper scope change, and the ads stuff. The rocket could be bigger, and I would like them to go back to the spnkr design. I would like to see a flashlight or laser on the SMG, something that quickly identifies it.

It’s quite interesting because it adds a new feature to weapons we have already used. I think the carbine’s magazine/scope might do something to project a scope, perhaps a holographic one above the barrel.

I think we’re in for some really surprises for the smart scope on a lot of the covenant weapons.

I want the needle rifle.

I really enjoyed the grenade launcher in Reach, that was probably the number one best thing to come out of Reach. Especially for matches like Warthog races, with 4 teams of 3, where you had the passenger shooting a grenade launcher to stall out the other warthogs, now that was fun.

legendary weapons? What is this? Destiny?

How about we just stick to one rocket and revert it’s design back to the old one.

As for the shotgun, that design has been changed since 4 and it’s not a drastic look difference. think that one is fine as it is.

That’s what the prophet’s bane is. There upgraded versions of existing power weapons. We don’t know which ones there will be yet though.

The GL was always really fun to use. I think what set it apart as a power weapon was that it was easy to use but difficult to master.

I miss the Reach GL.

I would like some brute weapons to return. The Spiker would look sick in current gen. Plus bring back all the grenades from the previous halos. I miss my spike grenades

Agreee on the brute spiker. However, spike grenades, pulse grensdes, and even incendiary grenades are all abominations in my opinion lol. I still remember the lag those darn incendiary grenades caused almost every time they were thrown!
