Some thoughts from a casual gamer

First time forum poster here. I need to start by saying my hardcore gaming days are long behind me. I’m not in High School anymore and can’t devote my entire life to playing games. That being said, I have been a Halo fan since I was six years old in 2002, mostly campaign, but did finally join Xbox Live in time for the Reach days. Here are some of my thoughts I’ve complied over the last couple of days after playing the multiplayer. Most of them well have already been repeated ad nauseam, but I still want to get them off my chest.

I can’t get over how great this game feels to play. I’m not sure if I am the only one that thinks this, but I feel like it is a more natural evolution of Halo 3’s gameplay , more so than Reach, 4, or 5. I adore the map design so far, and have enjoyed the new game types so far. That being said, like my peers, I take issue with the progression system. As mentioned, I am very much a casual gamer at this point, and that probably adds some bias to my opinion, but this progression system is a disaster. In fact, it seems to me like it is actively punishing gamers like me. Solely relying on challenges to rank up and unlock things in the battle pass is a bad system, especially with how grindy this battle pass is. The fact that there are no dedicated playlist for FFA, Team Slayer, and objective games modes frustrates me to no end since I have no idea when I will get a match of the type my challenges require. It also breaks the flow when I do finally get into a game of CTF or Oddball and no one is playing the objective, they are just treating it like slayer for their own challenges. I am also not a fan of all of the challenge swaps in the battle pass, or how double XP only works for half an hour when you don’t know when you’ll be able to complete challenges since you have no idea what game type you will be in until a match starts. Introducing XP per match would be a great start, but I do think there needs to be less challenge swaps and double xp in the battle pass. The great part is though, these few issues that I have are all fixable. 343 has been great at taking fan feedback into account during the last two flights, and I have hope they will address these issues quickly. Thank you for bearing with me and my post forum post. See you all on Zeta Halo!
