Before I begin, please note that I do not HATE Halo 4, I think it’s a fun game, and can’t wait for CSR rank and Forge Island.
-
Forge World: I know Halo 4 has a better system, and is getting Forge Island, but that’s nothing compared to Forge World. Forge World has always felt like home to me.
-
Firefight: ODSTFF>ReachFF>H4SPoPs. Sorry, but I don’t really like Spartan Ops, you can’t play it without Live, and it’s very corny. FF Limited on Reach is definitely one of my fondest Halo memories.
-
Maps: Yes, I know, Reach didn’t have that many great maps but it had a few that really stuck out and give me feels (ex:Countdown.) Halo 4 has some good maps but they don’t really give me feels like H3 and HR maps do.
-
DLC: H3 and HR DLC were the best. Bungie threw in a great (and my favorite) Reach Firefight map with Defiant, and 343 also threw in a great Firefight map with Anniversary. My point is, I think rather than just maps, we should get special armor with DLC. Or new guns on those maps.
-
Falcon: I’ve said enough.
-
Armory: I miss my Mark V and Inclement weather
7.Menu: More simple.
8.Asymmetry between UNSC and Covy sandboxes.
While each faction had their analogues they all had a very different feel(other than AR/Repeater obviously) the balance wasn’t perfect by any means, but I appreciated the variety in theory. 343 has done an alright job, and I hope they continue on that path in the future. (Thank you, WerepyreND, for 8.)
-
Playable Elites: This impacted quite a huge part of the community. (Thank you,Vex Narsamee, for 9.)
If you’ve read that thank you. For everyone else:
tl;dr: HR did some things right that H4 didn’t.
Share yours and I’ll add them!
> The menu.
True, but I’ve gotten used to the new one.
I know exactly how you feel about forge world. Hemmorage was my favorite and was hoping for something along those lines, It’s just something about the vastness and openness that i miss, but i guess I’ll have to settle for ravine or ragnarok which are much more confined and less straight-forward, but you’re right forge wold felt like home
Halo Reach:
a. Firefight
b. Armor & Armor Effects
c. Armor Lock and Drop Shield
d. Falcon
e. Forge (the REAL Forge)
f. Theater (Campaign, Firefight, & MM)
Halo 4:
a. Spartan Ops
b. Ordinance Drops
c. Custom Loadouts
d. Armor
> The menu.
Off course, but if their is one menu that i will always rank as #1, its CE and Halo 2.
Added Falcon to my list. Hope you don’t mind.
Ah the menu, yes. So simple, yet so crucial.
I’d also give Reach the edge when it comes to…
Armory & armor effects
More than one air vehicle
Weapons and weapons balance… but only just. some of those (grenade launcher, plasma launcher) were just so much fun!
> Added <mark>Falcon</mark> to my list. Hope you don’t mind.
I see, i gave you a hint on what you missed from that list.
I liked two things about Reach better than any other Halo game.
1.) Forge
2.) Asymmetry between UNSC and Covy sandboxes.
While each faction had their analogues they all had a very different feel(other than AR/Repeater obviously) the balance wasn’t perfect by any means, but I appreciated the variety in theory. 343 has done an alright job, and I hope they continue on that path in the future.
Enemies that didn’t bullet sponge.
Grunt Fuel Rod jerks instead of Elite General ones.
Sprint as an A.A.
Aesthetics.
Mood.
Customization. (On all fronts. Player. Firefight. Forge. Match Types. that game has a lot of cool stuff.)
Permanent Character. You were you across all game types. (Aside if preferred to be an elite, and infected or grif.)
Character deaths that, while somewhat foreseeable, all seemed to make sense in context of the game and the actions prior to that. (Except for Carter. Not sure how he was injured. It didn’t look like any plasma hit him.)
Weapons not bleeding through shields. I just don’t get that concept. It’s not like armor, that breaks and the hit keeps going. It’s a shield. It takes the brunt and pops.
Needle Rifle. Pro pipe.
Vehicle redesigns.
Space segment.
Range of vehicles. (Forklift, for the win.)
Menu system. So clean, so smooth, so intuitive and natural to operate. Loved it.
Sprint being an AA. No ordinance. The maps were much better (I thought anyways) and there were more maps to too chose from on Team Slayer vs Halo 4’s Inifinity Slayer. In most of Halo 4’s playlists the new maps hardly ever show up.
If I was to choose between the sticky detonator and the pro-pipe, I would take the latter hands down.
Also, I miss infected gameplay that I used to enjoy most while in Halo3.
I don’t really like Reach but I prefer it to Halo 4. Reach had the best UI of the entire series; it was wonderful!
I hate to bother, but in your title, who is this “we” that you speak of? Is it the entire community, or is it people who share a similar mindset like yourself. The only reason I ask is because I don’t like being spoken for, and i’m sure there are others that are the same way. Again, I apologize for bothering, I’m just curious.
I uhh… I meant the community as a whole.
> I uhh… I meant the community as a whole.
You may want to be careful with that. People will agree and disagree with what they think was better between the two games. Just be careful how you use “we”
Playable sangheili is also a big one
as stated many times, the ui. it was far and away the best of all games. i dont know why 343 changed it. the halo 4 one isnt as bad as people say, its mostly the color combination that is horrendous.
firefight is better then spartan ops. i enjoyed the cutscenes in spartan ops, but the game play was extremely repetitive. i miss spartan ops.
i liked the commendations a lot more in reach. halo 4 seems too easy and i dont like how the counter isnt continous and it stops when you max out instead of being <number>/max.
> Playable sangheili is also a big one
Holy crap, how did I forget that?
