Some talking about errors in the trailer but...

I question how is Chief’s armor so shiny every game? For a brick that drowns very easily by little water, how does he stay shiny. I haven’t played Halo 5 fully, but I doubt his squad brought cleaning gear for a spartan that was being hunted by Locke. Y’all talking about canon, well where is this canon?

Have you seen chief lately? He is all “war-torn” looking.

He looks roughed up infinite, did you not see the E3 campaign overview?

When it comes to trailers I honestly don’t care about canon. Just do the trailer and make it the best it can be in general. The books, comics, and games can carry the lore. I feel like their marketing sometimes underwhelms because they are trying to stay too true. They have plenty of lore moment they could of used, but again it’s whatever.

If this trailer really does take place during 2552 I’m disappointed they didn’t do Spartan IIs or IIIs. I like those sorts of attention to detail and though I’m not generally that concerned about sandbox canon in the games because that changes game to game. Having Spartan 4s at the battle for Earth is a pretty big overlooked detail. It also would be disappointing given the focus on Reach in the multiplayer, sort of bypasses the whole hero’s of the past vibe they’re going for and developing hero’s of the future.

I don’t think that they are on 2552. The earth was invaded on EEUU, Africa, Mexico and Cuba. Yet, the version of the Phantom doesn’t match with the rouges and Covenant. Plus, the armour are from the Banished.

Maybe because making separate textures and 3D models for every single time your character gets damaged, burnt, wet, etc. is a waste of time, money, and resources in a fps like Halo where you’re only ever going to see yourself in a cutscene.

I think people making a stink about the trailer timeline are just not doing great analysis.

H5 spoiler

That looks to me like either Cortana’s “invasion” of earth with banished forces on her side. Or the Banished invasion of earth after Cortana loses power/ control between games (way less likely than my first guess here)

Its a similar situation to the opening to Halo 4, where we see Chief and the other Spartans wearing armour that doesn’t exist at the time of the flashback.
The Phantom also looks more like the Halo 5 model than the Halo 3 version.

I get that it isn’t 100% canonically correct, but for the sake of a flashback with 10-15 seconds of screen time, I can live with it.

I think that was more forgivable because that armour change was more of a retcon and also they didn’t have the original mk4 armour in the game at the time. In this case they literally made all of the Halo Reach armour.

That said I don’t think it takes place in 2552.

I suppose it depends on how they made the trailer, whether it’s in engine or not.
