Some special stuff for the Warthog --

imagine in Halo 5 – or something like that there is a special oni warthog.
if you have the choice to give it one ‘special upgrade’ – which would it be?
check the poll – but here a small explanation what the things mean:
(you can vote for more things if you want. but keep in mind – these ideas are not balanced yet – these are just basic ideas atm]
laser turrets – the gunner has some spartan lasers as turrets
front guns – the driver hase some front guns. Could be very useful in some situations – especially if you drive alone.
i would prefer some grenade weapons with a slow reload time than machine guns.
autogyro jet packs – use four jetpacks to make big jumps or fly over stuff. you need good driving skills for this because you cant stear in the air. but the positive effect is: they use an autogyro system to turn the warthog downside down – already in a high of a few feet. great if you lose the control cuz of a railgun hit – or similar. so you can use the jets for more than one reason.
repulsion engine – a big jet or even rocket engine that boosts you forward.
downforce boosters – a few small repulsion steering nozzles that press your vehicle down. you wont make unwhished jumps or you can stabilize your path if you see one with a raigun. also helpful if you make highspeed turns – especially if the nozzles are ai regulated.
wheel spikes – press a button to extend some spikes out of your wheels. you gain grib in curves and especially if you want to drive up some cliffy hill. but you cant slide if they are extended – also you lose a bit of your highspeed. (greetings from james bond – may he rest in peace.)
radar jammer – says everything. a warthog that the enemys wont detect on their small radar – as long as you dont overdrive him =D
this thing also helps against every sort of homing particles – including missiles – needler rounds that aim on a person – or even emp shots. so this is useful in single player too.
this should have some energy based use-limit like the personal cloakfield. so it is an active ability – you press a button to activate it.
harpoon gun – you can shot it and it will stuck as long as you hold the button pressed. if your vehicle moves forward the rope will be coiled autmatically. ideal to drive high montains up and camp on the walls. or to pull enemy ghosts to you. this thing can have two versions – one fired by the driver the other by the gunner. depends on which works better – never tested. but i think it should be driver controlled. so the gunner can fight the enemys.
vehicle shield – protects against one emp hit and hijackers as long as it is active. same color as spartan shields have. first emp disables the shields – second the warthog for a few seconds – as normal. they will reload automatically similar to the mantis shields.
emergency escape – a bit like the thrust pack now in halo 4 – expept it works only forward. it uses a room warping engine to make a fast jump forward. the effect takes only a few split second but you will destroy everything in your path and kill everyone around your vehicle with the gravitation shock. If a wall is in front of you you will stop automatically – this is a safety system. so if you are nailed by the enemy and you think – crap no self destruction? – you can use this as a small around kill weapon too.

Before reading the emergency escape description, I was under the impression that one could press a button to eject from the Warthog. It would make a rather interesting style of play; especially for those Helljumper types.

honestly i hate the armor abilitys. i think we should not use them anymore in coming halo games and focus on the vehicles.
so exactly i dont want to add more – i want to move them from personal armor to vehicles.
i think the vehicles in h4 are to weak. they die to fast – they are to easy to destroy.
no armor abilitys. exept some for a few special vehicles. (like in multiplayer there are 3 warthogs and one has a random ability … or its team choice). something like that. or in campaign you can drive up to some kind of upgrade station and choose one of more abilitys for the levelpart.
something in that direction. if you know what i mean.

So . . . armor abilities for vehicles yes?

How about no. Armor abilities for Spartans and Elites are fine just as they are. I would rather have constant armor lock spamming than see a warthog with a laser turret and front guns killing me all the time.

and if we keep normal armor abilitys:

  • repair pack: you can repair damaged vehicles
  • reincanationspack: like repair pack but you cant repair damaged vehicles; exept they are totally destroyed > you can make a destroyed one to a brand new one (as long as the wreck dont disappears) … sure this one is alien technology

I want a radio that plays Los Dos Laredos.

And getting the puma tires back would be nice.

all i want is armor that can take more than 5 bullets

all those upgrades defeat the purpose of the warthog IMO

I can definitely see an ONI-REAP X Warthog.

Repulsion Engine would make sense to me since Forerunner tech would be put in, and since all the Covenant vehicles have it, I wouldn’t see why an ONI-REAP X Warthog wouldn’t.

But that just wouldn’t make it ONI-REAP X unique though. Something very special would be needed to make it truly unique to the ONI REAP X vehicles.

I personally would like to see different variants of warthog for certain situations. I mean the standard can handle pretty much any terrain but come on, this is the future we can do better than a glorified jeep with a machine gun.

Assault:
-Heavily armored variant of the standard hog. Adds extra plating and more cover over the vehicle so the driver, passenger, and gunner are not as exposed.

Arctic:
-Has treads instead of tires at the back and chained tires on the front. Has cover over passengers so they can be protected from the elements.

Jungle:
-Raised suspension for the warthog with some kind of blade thing on the front to cut through foliage.

Anti-Air:
-The rocket hog kind of accomplishes this but I’d like to see ones that could take down phantoms a lot easier like with faster and more missiles. It could have two firing mechanisms, one which is like the rocket hog with slow and short ranged rockets and another one where the warthog like attaches itself to the groundand can’t move for more stability with more powerful and faster missiles.

Water:
-Warthog changed to be able to act as a boat in certain situations (like crossing a river or lake). Maybe like having the wheels turn to act horizontally and floats come out? Idk it’s a complicated function.

I mean: my thoughts.
Humans need to evolve their stuff in different situations for different terrains, different tasks.
In the Halo Universe … they are pretty … … “ignorant” - if you know how I use that word in here.

“Oh we will die anyway one day. We are in war. C’mon lets take the warthog and attack the Covenant until we are all dead. So we are fast and everyone of us should kill 3 Elites. The one with the most kills win in Heaven the Porsche 911.”
These all-in-one device suitable for every purpose vehicles and weapons are good if you dunno what will come. But (as I said in an other topic) you also need to evolve your stuff until you have created new stuff out of it.

Snowbased Vehicles? Deserst Vehicles? Vulcanic Landscape Vehicles? How to come close to a sun? How to manage fights on the water? Or in cliffy terrains? The UNSC-Reach-Falcon was maybe a half little step in the right direction.

Also humans should start to get some evolution in their tactics. “Assault”-Warthog; “Anti-Air”-Warthog. This is the right direction.

And I can imagine how different the terrains can be: Snow with Snowwarthogs, Vulcanic Landscapes with special designed Tanks on it. Yeah, there is a lot of stuff hidden … even if we talk only over the terrains which we know from this planet here.

How about all of the above!

  1. Laser Turret - It would definitely be cool to have a mounted spartan laser (or mini mac cannon) on the back. The gauss gun would be cool to see again as well.

  2. Front Guns - Probably my least favorite idea. But it would be kinda cool to be able to have control of a weapon as the driver, kinda like the scorpion where you could fire a mini gun in addition to the cannon in Halo 2, I think.

  3. Autogyro Jet Packs - Would this be some form of a self-leveling device?

  4. Repulsion Engine - Not really needed, but ok.

  5. Downforce Boosters - Definitely! I’ve always hated how long the warthog remains suspended in mid-air, very unrealistic in my opinion. Also on that note, the vehicle has 4-wheel steering so why is it so squirrely sometimes?!

  6. Wheel Spikes - Uh, maybe. How about something like this instead: http://www.mattracks.com/media/index.php/Mattracks/88-Series/88-H2-001

  7. Radar Jammer - Kinda cool, but more trouble than it’s worth I think.

  8. Harpoon Gun - Yep! That’d be pretty cool!! Maybe the gunner could be tethered to the harpoon somehow to assist in boarding enemy crafts (i.e. Phantom, Lich)

  9. Vehicle Shield - That would be helpful, maybe powered by a Spartan’s shields or something? Or heavier armor installed on the vehicle instead.

  10. Emergency Escape - Probably my favorite idea, and a couple elaborations of my own:

  • Anyone ever played GTA? How about implementing the “tuck-n-roll” technique?
  • A quick exit strategy using a jetpack, being able to fly straight up and out of the drivers seat.
  • Either of the above with the addition of self destruct.
