Vehicle jacking. Particularly vehicle jacking in warzone.
I’ve tried almost everything. I’ve played a ton of halo 5 and no matter what I cannot;
1 jack a ghost travelling at full boost speed. This blows my mind when it happens to me. What’s the trick?
2 lunge 30 meters to jack a banshee. I don’t get how some players can lunge and board from just insane distances.
- When trying to board a tank I’ve walked a full circle while camo equipped around it and wasn’t able to board. It’s like the option to board just didn’t exist if that particular tank. It’s happen more than once.
Is there a science behind this? I just can’t figure out the mechanics behind vehicle jacking in this game. It seems like a random mess without any rhyme or reason behind it.
I know that hijacking a ghost at boost is not easy, and this is intentional but I don’t know about the other 2
For the tank you can’t board if there’s no one in it. Are you sure the person didn’t get out before you tried to board? It seems highly unlikely you would be able to walk a full circle around an enemy tank without them noticing.
You can jack a ghost if you boost backwards at the right time, catching the front of the ghost, chucking out the spartan.

I edited my op. I had camo and wasn’t seen.
i used to have a clip of this one but cleaned it up a while ago. I walked full circle aroun the thing before the tank backed up a couple feet and splattered me eventually out of pure dumb luck. I was pissed. My teammates thought it was hilarious.
My Achilles heel is trying to blow up a Wraith lol. As for tanks, you can board them from the rear but make sure it’s moving forward or it’s stationary. Because of the crazy physics mechanics, the slightest tap from a reversing tank can kill a Spartan. It may have been a glitch or one-off bug that the boarding action wasn’t available for the OP.

As the ghost drives by you or at you, right as it pasts you thrust the direction it’s going and hold the hijack button (X for me) even if it isn’t on the screen. If even for a split second you are in the position to jack it, the game will register your button and have you jack it.
-
This one baffles me too some as it has happened to me and I have done it to players. Basically, when I do it I jump as close to the banshee as I can, thrust the direction it is going, and hold the jack button even if it is not visible. I think the key for both the ghost and banshee jacks is to be in the same inertial frame.

Tanks can be frustrating, and sometimes you have to thrust to move the same speed as the tank. The back and the side between the two tracks are the easiest places to jack from. Note that Hannibal and ONI tanks are very hard to jack because they can move so fast, and I think they have less “jack spots”.
EDIT: ONI tanks (and maybe Hannibal, I’m not sure even though I’ve used dozens) can survive a grenade plant jack. If you can, beat it down a while and then plant the grenade.
The Ghost is all about timing with the thrust. Sometimes if it doesn’t splatter you on the initial hit, you can board it as well by holding the board button.
I think the Banshee thing is a connection issue. It might look far, but on their screens it’s closer. Just my guess.
Not finding a board option on the tank only happened a couple times for me. Not sure what it is, but your best bet is to try and board it by the driver instead.
1: Do what everyone else suggested and thrust backwards as it’s boosting towards you. As an added note, try to make sure if the Ghost does hit you, it’s with the side “wing” and not the main “nose”. The wing hitting you full on won’t kill you (it’ll take your shields off for sure, but it won’t kill you), but hitting the nose will.
EDIT: Also note that this does work on Warthogs as well.
2: The 30 m lunge is definitely an exaggeration. That’s less than the radar’s range. My guess is that either they were in a position where the option activated because you got too close to them or you happened to be lagging a lot and accidentally wound up next to them.
3: Tanks are a weird one, I’ll give you that. I’ve experienced this many times myself. There’s certain areas and a certain position you need to be in for the prompt to show up, and it sounds like you hit it generally, but either the thing moved away from you or you got hit and that blocked it somehow. I really don’t know.

Just start beating the -Yoink!- out of the tank by meleeing if you can’t jack

I find this to be particularly ineffective on most vehicles nowadays, mainly because in a game of Warzone most of the time the vehicle, specifically tanks, is not alone; there’s either a gunner, a couple of guys, or another vehicle behind it. Punching it alone won’t do the trick fast enough…
Except if the vehicle is a Mantis. In my experience, I have a better chance of boarding Mantii and living by punching it rather than planting. This is because for some reason the Mantis has a really large explode range and it can kill me as soon as I get off.

I meant just stand next to it on foot, punching it

Lol.
Does punching your controller work as well?
What I don’t understand is how and why my shields go down when I’m ripping someone out of their seat.

If you believe hard enough, punching anything works
