Read before you flame. I conjured this idea a few secs. prior to posting this and its not repeating whats already been said.I may say things over-posted for comparison.

So ive been reading through the posts,specifically the ones concerning forge,about what would be awesome. What many wish for,myself included, a “pure” map editor,a well known example being Far Cry 2’s map editor. What I must state is that FC2 came out in 2008,like 4 years ago.And it was also on the Xbox 360.Although each map had limited file space,you could almost make virtually anything.
Halo Reach had a much better forge than its Halo 3 version,but 2 years better tech couldnt do something like this.(I can think of a few reasons why, but i would lose space)
Now 343 has said (forget when,though) that they will optimize greatly on forge among other things. Could this hint that they have looked at other map editors such as FC2’s, whether it be b/c of our discussions or not? Also,from the cool new pieces they added in the Anniversary Map Pack,this may hint that they will care greatly about our forging community more and do something like this?
Another thing ive been thinking about is the vehicle selection in the new forge. we have never been able to forge or drive a great No. of vehicles (Pelicans,Phantoms,Spirits,Longswords,etc) mainly due to lag and frame rate. If this option wont be available in Forge 3.0 then I have a solution inspired by LEGO.They should make tutorials,like LEGO instruction manuals that arrange hundreds of pieces into replicas,to do the same for big vehicles hard to render. this would be better than just guessing, but not take away creativity. tutorials should be for gametype setup too.
Another thing. A lot of us think that we should have texture/skin options for our structure. This also gave me an idea. Maybe instead of having default sizes for blocks and such,we should be able to size their dimensions to our specific wants.
each block would cost the same b/c blocks big and small in Reach all cost 10 cR.
ex. 1x4x3,5x5x5,3x5x4,etc.
What do you have to say about my ideas?
I’m an avid forger and I like all your ideas. One thing I wish for in forge though is ODST drop pods. Covenent ones as well I guess. I just hate how much work and tweaking it takes to currently make drop pods. I have one of my drop pod test maps in my Reach file share if you wanna check it out. GT: THRILL606
I don’t think a terrain editor is a realistic goal.
The block sizing idea is a great one, and I’d love to see something like that implemented. It expands Forge’s possibilities immensely, and with certain blocks, this kind of idea is certainly feasible.
Also, the “re-skin” idea. I’d be perfectly fine with a “color” bar similarly given to Reach’s vehicles in Forge mode. Just changing a bit of color would have made the Forge World maps last a lot longer for me.

I know what you mean. I was just thinking that it was kind of stupid that a game that came out a good 2 yrs before Reach had a pure map editor. And I always wish to make a true Covenant or UNSC base without them looking forerunner. We shouldnt have to change textures every game. So why not just make it easy to change an objects skin/texture just as easily as changing colors for structure and mongooses?
Also, yeah it wouldve been nice if they made more of the structure “colorable”. wouldve opened up more possibilities.
I forge on a daily basis and I think all your ideas are strong but the only thing I would like is this
