Some Inifinity Challenge Thoughts

So there are some things I’ve been thinking about and I just wanted your input on them.

  1. What purpose do the tiers really serve? I get how they’re broken down and I’m pretty pleased to be in Tier 1 as of today, the 2nd. I get that prizing is different as you place in each Tier, but wouldn’t you think that the top 2,000 something should get prizing? Rather, the top…is it 200? In Tier 1 get prizing, and yet the remainders in Tier 1 (who technically are in the top 10% of all participants) get no prizing. While those with lesser ranking can still get prizing. Or is it the Tiers are geared towards different skill sets and types of players? So Tier 3 is Casual, Tier 2 is slightly competitive, and 1 is competitive?

  2. Do you suppose people are tanking in Tiers 2 and 3, barely staying afloat, just to dominate in the final week to get the top prizing for those Tiers?

  3. In my situation, as of 8:53 AM Mountain today I’m 3,045th with a score of 43,195 in Tier 1. 17,040 is the minimum to be in Tier 1. I try to put in at LEAST a few hours a night to keep my place in Tier 1. But I suppose my question is it worth it to be spending that much time a day to stay in the Tier, when I’m still ranked pretty low IN that Tier, but will have essentially a “fresh start” in the final week? All the top guys in Tier 1 have scores in the 6 digits.

  4. Truth be told, this is my first year I have my own xbox and a live membership all to my own that I can play when I want. It’s all been hand me downs and local LANS for years. All I want to gain out of this tournament is the satisfaction of being relatively highly ranked in the world. (Tournament organization issues and problems aside). And if I can get prizing, even something as small as a shirt or those cool dog tags, that’s even better. But in the back of my mind I’m just starting to wonder if it’s worth it. When it’s more a chore then fun I’ll stop for sure. So I might have just answered my own question.

I dunno, thoughts?

I guess it’s worth mentioning I’m doing War Games, not SO.
