Some Ideas for Improving Oddball

As much as I liked Oddball in previous Halo games, it falls flat here in a couple ways for me. That being said, I got some suggestions that could potentially improve it here in Infinite.

  • Rather than having multiple rounds, the score limit should be raised by at least 20 seconds for a total of 120 points to obtain in a single round.

  • The oddball carrier could use a slight buff. Either bring back the one-melee kill, OR allow the carrier to sprint (Perhaps at the cost of decreased sprint speed?)

Oddball’s still got the potential to be a hit. As it is now, it’s mediocre at best. I hope this gets somewhere, because I’d love to see this game mode get patched up and be on par with its previous iterations.

I get the argument of not wanting the carrier to be too powerful but on a purely personal preference level, I miss when the ball/flag was a one hit kill.

I’m ok with the best of 3 approach. I could get on board with an ever-so-slightly faster movement speed. The delta between base movement and sprint is already very small, but maybe right in the middle.

I just find it odd (Pardon the pun) that the carrier is ulitmately crippled with nothing to at least defend themselves with. Considering the flag carrier can at least sprint, I’m shocked the oddball carrier can’t do the same thing.

Yea, it has a tendency to cause matches to drag. The only consistent option in a tight competitive game is to drop the ball and join your team in attempting to wipe the enemy team. Then get a few seconds on the clock and hope to repeat.

Hey, I remember you.

Anyway, I agree that the ball should be a one-hit kill. People just walk up on you in ranked where you’re almost there, and they try to bait you into taking a swing, then back up. Every time. On the off chance that you can get them, they always win the engagement because they were shooting at you, and you can’t even oneshot with the ball.

There should be more nuance than just “drop the objective” every time someone shows up.
