Some Hard(ish) Data since Season 2 Reset

The toxicity is real in low Onyx . Did I play like dog**** that game, yes lol (but thats not the point and I wasnt intentionally sandbagging…just one of those off-nights). It’s gotten noticeably worse as the population drops. I usually try to message post-game and throw out GGs (even if I did happen to bag someone).
That instance actually impressed me that they had enough time and care to actually look up my stats and game history in real time. It struck a nerve, sure, but I just ended up reporting & blocking them and shrugged it off. I just dont want them to do that to others.

Nice data. For me, the map rotation is the smoking gun. 75%+ of ranked games are on the same three tired-out maps they were a year ago. You’re not getting anyone who left coming back until that number starts seriously changing.

Detachment and Argyle will be very welcome come November.

And it will be great to see how Forge maps stand up to Dev ones in real life.

Plus the rehash of The Pit.

And fingers crossed there are some of those gorgeous Forge Council maps waiting in the wings.

Enough to make a difference though - I’ve played lots of games in open arena 4v4 and I match with very similar players where as FFA and controller arena 4v4 I’m being matched with unranked and 10 levels up and down. Very wide!!!

This makes me laugh and remember a game on beaver creek from halo2 my brother went 50-0 due to very little SBMM.

I haven’t played in a while but I have been over the last week…. apart from feeling rusty - it feels a much better game and lots of playlists to choose.

But I very much agree with some of the others here - if your friends have a wide skills range the game crumbles. - Which is now my only disappointment.

Yeah. They should consider shifting weighting when the new map comes in (depending on how many modes it involves). If it’s natural weighted and only has a couple gametypes–the issue is still that the same three maps dominate. Catalyst was added, but look at your data. You get it less than 1 in 10 games, while 7/10 games are on the same three. Bazaar comes up about 1 in 20 times. From a player perspective, it feels like Infinite has 3 maps because in practice, it basically does.

This is exactly why i just stopped playing ranked all together a week after S2 launched. I don’t even know if I finished my placement matches this season. It was just game after game of 120-150 ping.

It only happens in ranked for me too. Any social 4v4 or BTB game i play is usually 30-45 ping, with the occasional 90.

Which is really disappointing because usually I play exclusively ranked and BTB in other titles. Half my most fun playlists just don’t function

I think social has a healthy population. I was up early this morning and wondered if I could get a game at 7am. No luck in ranked games but matched instantly in Team Slayer with a 50-90 ping over a few games. Probably not local players with the time frame.

man

i feel the same way in social.

why do people click modes they aren’t gonna play.

I have no idea. I had like, 35 kills in a CTF match last night and we ended up tying because my team refused to score.

BTB for me all the time. Trying to play the objective is extremely challenging throughout time and time again.

quitting is for infants.

I don’t understand why it’s so hard for them to implement something that would deal with this.

Just void the match…no one’s rank changes…if people quit, or lag out, or get booted from AFK. That’d be the easiest way to do it.

The problem with that is everyone will just quit to void the loss.

Unfortunately you have to penalise the quitter. And ergo, the quitter’s team.

But 343 could do so much more. Not starting games 3v4 for a start. Either respool into matchmaking for another game - or rejig the match to be 3v3.

Add a rejoin feature.

And if you have to continue 3v4 - do something to even up the match. After all, everyone wants the same thing - an evenly contested match that gives them an opportunity to rank up. And a dead rubber just wastes EVERYONES time.

Even up the match. Take power weapons and camo off the table. Change the scoring system. eg. For Oddball the time could tick faster if the smaller team gets their hands on the ball.

Some games like CTF just can’t be played with uneven teams - so swap them to Slayer.

Handicap the scoring system so kills for the smaller team are worth more. You could even readjust the scoring for both teams depending on the quality of the player that quit. For example, if your worst player quit, you may actually now have an advantage being 3v4.

Cricket has a system for rain delays called the Duckworth-Lewis system. It’s basically a huge list of projected results that look at the current game scores before the delay and find the equivalent for the new time left.

Just. Do. Something.
