Some Forge tips

People are already complaining so I thought I would explain how to do certain things:

Most complaints surround controls which for the most part I can’t help unless you have an elite controller (in which case I have a good layout that assigns controls to paddles)
I would like to add that I use bumper jumper so my custom layout is based off that.

  • Upper right paddle for flying up - Lower right paddle flying down - Upper left paddle for deselect all (I notice that often you will be selecting multiple pieces so I often just select deselect all so I don’t accidently move something) - Lower left paddle for change speed (so you can spring easily with practically no effort needed and go to precision mode easily as well)Now for those who are confused about orientation and moving objects:
All of those issues can be fixed by opening forge options in-game and going to tool settings:

  • To get objects to rotate the same regardless of your orientation: Tool settings: Rotation: Type: World - To get objects to rotate (like a wall) to rotate off its center and not off a corner: Tool settings: Rotation; Pivot: Center of Mass - To get objects to move universally: Tool settings: Movement/Translation: World - To weld objects together (like add sparkles to ‘Timmy’ the space whale) Spawn whale; spawn FX lighting; grab both; group together; forge options: object properties: object properties; weld.I will be adding more throughout the day.I know the controls are confusing, annoying, counterintuitive, or whatever to some but nonetheless this is what we have. I personally like the controls and don’t mind them (they remind me of solidworks so I am kind of already used them)

Yeah, thanks. I’m an experienced mapmaker (since 1994), and I really don’t want to waste time like that. I know to mass replicate stuff. The problem is that the snap/magnets suck, the controls are sloppy and unwieldy, and frankly, Forge itself is just too limiting. You can’t edit terrain, for one. Big issue there.

Awesome! Keep it coming please! Really informational and easy to read guide. I love to forge and am getting requests from company members on a few maps. I look forward to reading more!

Can you weld weapons?

Do you know how to select all?
Or a delete all option?

Do you even play Halo? Forge is too limiting? Halo 5 Forge has thousands of options. For the record you’ve never been able to edit terrain, you can in 5 however as there are terrain pieces.

I don’t get why people think the controls are bad, I played around with forge today and at first I had a hard time but within an hour and I was building things hundreds of times faster than I ever could in Reach or 4. My only complaint is that I feel like A should be up and B should be down.

Well technically when your in default controls, the X button goes into the options- then got to option properties- then select all of item- that’s when you go out and then hold the delete button to [Delete All]

Experienced maybe, but not in Halo apparently. The magnets are pretty much the same before, the controls can be customized through different variations… or just get used to it. And you’ve never been able to edit terrain. That’s never been an issue with experienced Forgers.

What I’d like to know is, what’s the best way to set up infinite falling items, ie balls?

I think someone just wanted to brag about being a mapmaker for the last 22 years. Have you designed anything I would know of?

as I fix this? by grouping an object with a special effect I can not put into normal physical

What? Grouping just involves clicking the different pieces then clicking on the D-pad. If you are talking about making objects not phase through, then you just need to click the object, open object properties, and it will be one of the top options to edit. You can make it fixed, phased, or normal.
