Along with other things, Firefight was dropped from Halo 4 in favour of Spartan Ops. There’s not a problem with that. Spartan Ops revamps the co-op experience.
But there’s a problem. Firstly, Spartan Ops has no scoring or skulls. These have always made co-op in Halo that little more fun, as well as adding replayability. Second, once the season is up, the only reason to keep playing really will be for challenges, commendations and achievements. There’s a real possibility of it getting abandoned by most unless a season two comes out.
The solution? Firstly, put in scoring and skulls (and theater).
Second, a Firefight-style survival mode could quite easily slide into Spartan Ops. Just list it as it’s own chapter or whatever. From a story perspective they could be training exercises like the war games.
The thing is, most of the assets and resources for Firefight is already there. Enemies? Easy. Maps? Uhh, all of the Spartan Ops maps, with adjusted objects and spawns. All it really needs is a scoring system implemented.
And then, if you consider implementing Infinity Ordanance and being able to call in turrets, vehicles and barricades Dominion-style, suddenly you have Firefight 3.0.
And given how 343i are approaching TUs for this game, I see this as a real possibility. Your thoughts?
