Some feedback from a long time halo wars fan

Graphics look great, love that you stuck with the original base structure. Very encouraged that this is not a complete departure from an amazing first game.

Some things to look into:
The leader powers and use of them are not very clear. You’ll notice they are rarely used in games. In the original they were very clear and used often.

Way points for units don’t seem to work very well. Fixing this is a must. A top tier player assigns multiple moves for units when they know they’ll be busy elsewhere. Or to fix order of attacks. Also for resource collecting and scouting. Absolutely must be resolved.

Markers when you assign a unit to move are not clear. Or to attack. I have to stare hard to tell if I clicked or not. It should be clear.

Hooks. These were a big win in the first game. Reactor hooks especially. Should look into bringing those back.

Y button stuff like canister she’ll doesn’t seem to work at all. Or if it does, it’s very unclear. Play the first game again- it’s very clear. When you select a unit it has a Y next to it when there is an ability to use. It was clear when you had use your special and when you could use it again (regeneration).

Buildings are not easily distinguished one from another. This complicates strategic play. Also, building health isn’t very clear. These should be resolved. I love the new graphics but perhaps redesign to be abundantly clear which building is which. Rts games are about strategy, shouldn’t have to squint to pick out what’s what.

Units firing on enemies just spray bullets everywhere, especially true for air units. It’s impossible to tell graphically if your units are obeying and hitting their target. We are left to assume they obeyed a command. Please correct to have firing hit the target clearly.

I see what you’re trying to do with multiple resources. But honestly, the run to vehicles/air/etc is way way too long. Such as the scorpion tank. Think halo wars sergeant forge supply pad supply pad reactor reactor vehicle depot in the first game for a rush to tanks. It takes too long to get rolling and I can’t help but feeling for a console centric rts that it’s a bad move to have two resource types. It takes up way too many base slots and makes the game start very slow. You’re all but required to have multiple built up bases to reasonably produce vehicles. Shouldn’t be this way. One base has the advantage of early attack but weaker on resources if early strikes fails, hard to catch back up. Early expansion (do let basing from the start) is weaker to attack early on and slower to get units out but more stable and able to produce units faster. This is how it should be, but not how the beta is.

Neutral bases are all empty and build able immediately. Some eutral bases with enemies on them force you to make some units to get a new base. Same is true for neutral enemies near hooks. Also allows for gaining veterancy on leaders or units. I don’t think this should be left out.

You can’t zoom out far enough. I feel like my face is pressed to the screen with the view. Need to be able to see more at a time.

Fix these things and this game will be an excellent sequel to halo wars. I understand it’s still an early beta, so time to tweak. Hope these ideas/observations help produce a final solid game. Or, for now, a better second beta.

Keep up the good work guys. The game is an encouraging sequel these days when sequels seem to try and reinvent the wheel (and often flop terribly when trying to do so). Bad cod sequels, bad halo sequels, etc.

A round wheel is the best wheel and has been for a long time. You can make a better wheel and keep it round. But no amount of polish will make a square wheel better than a round one. Genius and creativity isn’t making an octagon wheel or something no one has ever imagined, it’s fine ding solid and creative ways to improve on what is good and works in a natural progression.

Keep polishing that round wheel!

Halo wars one was super plain, but many of us played thousands and thousands of games. We played that much because it was solid and well balanced, clear and functional. Entertaining. Competitive. Keep it that way with some new shine and halo wars 2 will be a big winner.
