Some Covenant Allies, some Enemies?

I have part of a theory regarding the Covenant in Halo 4. Bear in mind that details of the game remain sketchy, and I may have misinterpreted information regarding what I am about to say.

From Glasslands we know that some Sangheili want to annihilate humanity, before they can rise back up, and some still want to remain Allies. What if that conflict is still going on during Halo 4; some attacking the Chief (as in the start of the game, and in the H4 E3 demo), and some helping humanity.

Take a look at this picture: http://assets2.ignimgs.com/2012/06/04/e32012halo4chiefhero3jpg-3a2f4c.jpg

The Ghosts appear to have Elites in, and none of them are shooting at John, the Warthog or the Scorpion. In fact, the one near the Warthog seems to be working with it. Also, above the AR on John’s back, you can see the silhouette of a Banshee, and it isn’t attacking him nor the Falcons.

Also, take a look at this video. It should start at 8:42, but if not, just skip. There is the silhouette of a Covenant Battlecruiser, and it’s not attacking the Infinity or vice versa. http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&list=ULZvNwq4lYBrc&v=ZvNwq4lYBrc#t=522s

But then, from the Campaign E3 Demo, and from information about the first mission, we know the covenant are still enemies, or atleast some of them. It didn’t take me long o work out why the Jackals and Grunts were still fighting too, other than the possibility of some of them staying loyal, Grunts are probably still there out of fear, and Jackals there for the money.

So, what could this mean? Not all the Covenant are enemies, some are still Allies? I guess we’ll find out soon enough, but here’s hoping. (I love the nice Sangheili).

What are your thoughts/opinions?

Yeah. they already confirmed that the enemy elites where rebels. we still have elites that followed thel’s idea that being in peace with humans would be better than fighting them. its like we ahve abit of it fromt he olympion chain machinima. humans and elitesd have peace. but some elites don’t like the Idea of humans and elites shakeing hands.

It’s likely.

Also consider this.

During the trailer, notice the blue Promethean knights? They are likely friendly. 343i is trying hard to paint that big glowing orb as an enemy as a sort of bait and switch (hint: It’s a Cryptum of the Didact, and actually a likely an Ally, otherwise it could have easily destroyed the Chief and the Infinity. It needs their help)

Here’s my theory from the Forerunner novels. The Elites are not the only ones who are potentially in a civil war. The Forerunner may have faced one too which would have splintered their forces before their fall by the Flood.

There are two factions on Requiem, potentially the Precursors who would be the Ancient Evil that 343i has already mentioned, and the Didact. The Precursors have taken control of some of Promethean AI’s (the ones that glow orange) and the Didact controls a much smaller force (the ones that glow blue). He brought the Chief and the Infinity after witnessing Humanities potential on the Halos to help him regain control of Requiem.

Atleast thats my speculation on whats going on.

Edit:Typo, glowing instead of green, I’m aware the orb was a silver colour with Orange glow.

In the books it states all the Precursors are dead. There are none left. IT’s probably just like having different colored Elites, just ranks.

They are persumed dead, and they had one left imprisoned in stasis that managed to get out. They were a species capable of intergalactic travel so it could very well be they’ve been hiding in another galaxy, or the one remaining one in the books is still around. It is this one remaining one that turned Mendicant Bias on the Forerunner, and unleashed the Flood.

It also could be the Master Builder who was tried with Warcrimes for unleashing the Halos on the Prophets. He could very well be rebelling against the Didact as they did not get along at all.

that Sounds…Accurate…but freakin AWSOME!!!

It’s possible the New Enemy scared the Covenant into a temporary truce with the UNSC. Basically like how the Brutes forced the Elites to ally with the UNSC in Halo 2.

Possibly. Also, in the Live-Action trailer, the Didacts symbol was upside down and at the end it spun around too. I don’t think the Didact is the actual enemy. Maybe something is using him or his power, or he is acting against his own will. These are my thoughts, but your ideas are just as valid.

I can understand this bit too. But, if it was the Didact that brought down the Infinity, why did he do it so violently, and again, why was his symbol upside down? Only time will tell.

It came down violently because the tried to reverse course. The forces involved with a tractor beam, and ship going full reverse could have damaged the ship to a degree. We can also assume the ship comes down rather gently, as further clips in the trailer, presumably later in the game, you see the Infinity in the air, and even the shadow of a covenant cruiser on its hull.

Also, Faber, the Master Builder, had control of Mendicant Bias until the Didact, from within Bornstellar, disabled him. If it was the Master Builder that had control of Mendicant Bias, and he managed to escape the Forerunner Capital before the Halos fired, he could still be out there somewhere, perhaps, as you said, at war with the Didact on Requiem.

I meant it was pulled down very violently. We know the Infinity survives, and gets back out, as presumably later Campaign screenshots and clips show it and according to an interview with a member of 343i I saw, War Games/Spartan Ops, which take place aboard the Infinity are set about 6 months after Halo 4.

Well it is a big ship with alot of Mass. I would imagine it’s not easy to bring into Requiem gently. I would also assume whatever force is against the Didact would likely try to prevent him bringing in reinforcements which the Infinity likely is. It didn’t just show up, it was brought there purposely.

This image would seemingly indicate the Covenant do work with the UNSC at some point

See the shadow? thats a Covenant cruiser really close to the Infinity
