So after playing around with HW:DE on PC for a while, there are a few things that both this, and HW2, desperately need to bring HW up to RTS standards:
[These suggestions are based on PC, and some things are obviously still present from the X360 version]
- Remove (or toggle) screen-scroll acceleration. It makes accurate movement rather difficult and is more than a touch clunky with a mouse
- Scalable UI (or even better, customisable UI <3). It’s currently a great size for playing on a 50" TV you’re a few metres back from, but on a 27" screen my nose is almost touching, it’s a little obnoxious
- Show control groups on-screen (See SC2’s implementation). It’s great that the PC version has proper 1-9 control groups, but an icon to show a) Which control groups are in use, and b) The primary (or first) unit in the group, just to give a reminder of what you’re selecting
- Add an ‘attack-move’ command. Similar to SC2 with a+LMB, we need a way to select some units and get them to move towards a select location, attacking anything they come across. BUT this needs to be separate from just moving. Both are involved in staple RTS tactics. Anyone familiar with SC2 will know just how satisfying it is to charge a mob of zealots straight past an enemy army without blinking an eye and into their mineral line before they can say you must construct additional pylons >:)
These are just my thoughts on what would improve my HW experience, and I’m sure at least some of these will be fixed as we approach Feb 17th.
Overall I’m just loving HW on PC where RTS is at its best. Anyone else got anything they’d like to see changed?
