As you all know, yoinking is a major annoyance in Halo Reach. For me anyways, it is extremely frustrating when a teammate decides to get cute and disrupt that badass and satisfying assassination of yours. So, I thought of a solution to rid us of said annoyance.
This has probably been discussed several times, but I would like to hear the opinions of my fellow forum-goers. Solution: during the assassination animation, your victim becomes impervious to your teammates’ fire, effectively eliminating any chance of a yoink and guaranteeing you the assassination. I’m aware that this also presents a problem. Say, for instance, you are battling an enemy, break his shields, and are on the brink of finishing him only to have a teammate come from behind to assassinate him, stealing your kill and leaving you with nothing to do about it. However, this instance occurs far less often than intentional yoinks, as aforementioned, so the benefits would far outweigh the costs.
I would imagine that this solution may be somewhat tricky for the programmers to implement, but then again, I wouldn’t have the slightest idea. What do you all think? Would you prefer yoinking to be completely removed in this way? Can you think of a better solution? Or is it just not that important for 343 to worry about?
I agree. I can’t stand when people intentionally yoink your assassinations. And to the inevitable people that will come in here and say “Just beat them down scrub!” No, I play for fun, and assassinations make the game a lot more fun.
If we have a medal for it, that means that Yoinking, in other words stealing somebodies assassination is approved by 343i (actually Bungie created it).

Is there any H4 footage of a Yoink or a Yoink medal? I’m just curious.
I would love it if they thought of a way to remove yoinking. All it does is support selfish gameplay for players who only want to up their own kill count and are not concerned about playing as a team.

Wow. That’s a hell of a lot better solution than mine. Surprised I didn’t think of that. It would be so easy to implement too.
I think your idea makes logical sense, but I prefer the satisfaction of annoying a friend or trash talking team-mate by yoinking them. EX: My friend accidentally betrayed me, and I cross-map yoinked him with a sniper. It totally makes assassinations better too, when you pull one off without dying or being yoinked it’s pretty awesome. Also not everybody yoinks so it’s a tradeoff.

In some instances, usually at long range, I’m confused as to whether my team mate is being assassinated or getting assassinated, so all my ‘Yoink’s’ are accidental, exceptions for having fun with friends.

I thought of this myself, I’m so surprised I don’t see it more often. It’s logical smooth sailing. Lol.
If you choose to assassinate, you are leaving yourself open to the possibility of someone yoinking you. You’re choosing to kill someone much slower and less practically than a simple backwhack.
If you were smart, you would save that finishing move for an isolated incident away from friends and enemies alike, where the embarrassment can really sink in.

But that will take the fun out of the yoink medal. :C
