Having just been banned for 10 minutes, I’m using that time to propose an update to the matchmaking service.
Problem
As it currently stands if you leave a game for any reason, you receive the largest reduction in rank possible for that game as well as a timed ban (if the occurrence is frequent). For players that actually quit this is a fair system. However for those of us that experience connection problems or an in game glitch, this is hardly fair. Now I’m not suggestion that you distinguish between a player quitting and a player lagging out, as some players would turn of their routers if they wished to quit.
Solution
What I am suggesting is that the game prompt a user with an option to rejoin their previous game, saving both their rank and the rest of their team. This is becoming a standard feature and can be seen in good use in games like Hearthstone and League of Legends to name a few. I myself have a fairly good internet service and rarely lose connection to the server, but it does happen. The more frustrating problem however is a glitch which claims I have left my fireteam or that my fireteam has changed, forcing me back in to the main menu.
I hope to see this feature included in a near future update.
Opinions from the forums?
I think this would be a great feature. If someone quits just to quit (to join friends, lost faith in the game,) they wouldn’t attempt to utilize a reconnect.
True but if someone selected the quit option you wouldn’t need to prompt them with a rejoin anyway.
Any reform would be helpful (and in my opinion, necessary). As I mentioned in the other forum, the ban system punishes behavior that is not meant to be penalized under the current system (i.e. disconnects, 343’s servers, this random “fireteam has changed” message).

Problem: This isn’t the ban thread.
Solution: Have a go in the ban thread.

Problem
The title of that thread is “THE OFFICIAL HALO 5 “WHY WAS I BANNED?” THREAD”. I am not curious why I was banned and I’m not asking to be un-banned.
Solution
Create my own thread suggesting a potential update to the current matchmaking service. This is after all the “Matchmaking Feedback and Discussion” section of the forum.

It’s not like anything is getting done over there.

It does seem like more of a place to vent anger about being banned more than anything else
No I think this is a perfect place for this topic, this is definitely good feedback and 343 (if not aware of this problem already) need to know this issue exists and needs fixing.
Its pretty simple fix really, If someone clicks the big quit button in the pause menu… Ban them, if they don’t and the client simply gets refused or kicked/losses connection to the server… DON’T BAN THEM!!!
Seems pretty obvious to me, however I understand this could bring up exploits… IE people quitting build so the game is unable to determine if the player lost connection people disconnection there internet resulting in the player not being punished for there actions. Firstly, only the -Yoinks!- that need banning would do that. So surely a work around for such a cases could be found. Using some sort of cache to detect such an event. This should definitely be possible and being banned because you get disconnected is really not a way to treat your fans… Please fix!

I’m not sure, that might be possible but it seems a little more complicated trying to work out who intentionally lagged out.
More games these days offer a player the chance to rejoin if connection is lost. If they reconnect they continue playing and hopefully not too much ground is lost. If they don’t attempt to reconnect then it would count as them leaving the game.
I agree 100%. They really needed this in the halo wars 2 beta where the game had a 35% chance of crashing. Lagging out wasnt too big of an issue in halo 5 but when you are teetering in and out of onyx and champion that loss can pull you back to onyx.
Halo Wars would be the perfect place for this type of feature. Games last quite long and its super frustrating when you lose connection.
The only thing they would have to work out is what happens to a players units during the loss of connection and how long to wait before you offer their bases up.
