I agree that armor abilities catered more to casual players than harcore fans in Reach. I am a casual player, I play for fun, and as such, I liked AA . . . they are insanely fun in custom games. But I occasionally like competitive gametypes. Here is what I would like to see for Halo 4:
AA for: Firefight, Invasion, Action Sack, Player-made maps, and Custom games ONLY
AA would be turned off for all other matchmaking gametypes (except sprint).
What do you think? Good idea?
Personally, I think the more custom game options the better. Take what you want out of Matchmaking, 343, but I want to be able to choose to turn turret destructability off/on, turn armor abilites off/on, turn Halo 1 pistol off/on, etc. in CUSTOMS.

It’s not that easy…
If you only have one variable (AA’s) than presenting choices A and B is a valid solution to any conflict that may arise between the two interest groups. But that’s not the case here, we have team, gametype, map, and just overall playlist preferences too which may conflict with the nice little circles you’ve drawn around matchmaking. I may, for instance, love armor abilities, but also love free for all so in this case I’d be out of luck. Or, I may hate AA’s, but love Firefight, which also doesn’t leave me satisfied in your solution.
So, whatever you do, the complexity of opinion and gaming is going to guarantee that some people leave pissed. The trick is to minimize how many people do via some measure of objectively good game design (which will probably take definite a side on the issue) which more people can get behind than irrationally refute.

Last time I checked chief used a jet pack in the Halo4 trailer.
By the looks of how they did it I think the armor abilities will simply add to component of your armor.

Thrusters not Jetpack.
Thrusters are implemented inside John’s suit. Jetpacks are a add-on.

I dont know what trailer you watched, but that was the EVA functionality built into each Spartan Suit since Mark IV. It has been used in the books multiple times and it is used to provide Movement in 0G environments.

Last I checked, that was a zero-g thruster in his suit that hasn’t been used until now that came standard with the armor he got in Halo 2.
AA’s need to stay out. 343 either needs to try for a classic experience again, or try something new IMO.

Not a jetpack, they were zero-gravity thrusters, they have been there since he gathered the suit in Halo 2, heck they were most likely used a few times out of frame, in Halo 2 when he ‘gave the covenant back their bomb’, when he went to land on the frigate, using them would have stopped him from hitting it to fast.
