So I just finished a session where I played around 10 ranked matches and it was so frustrating. Almost 75% of the time someone quit on me team. Why do people even join if they have no intention of competing? Anyway, I’m trying to climb the ladder but the reality of everyone constantly quitting matches is draining. Why is this happening? Is there any other games that you guys recommend for solo competitive multiplayer? I had high hopes for infinite and I know it just released, but I will not be a part of this if it continues in this direction
You’re going to get more 3v4’s and team quitters than you realize, it just comes with the territory. Try not to let it get to you. I went 2-7 today with some frustrating losses, but I’m still going to do my best to climb. Keep your spirits high. It is weird when I get ‘Gold III’ players who perform badly on my team when I’m queuing solo into "Platinum VI.’ I suspect it is duo players skewing the matchmaking algorithm.
I’ve only quit ‘two games’ on purpose (‘DNF’) to avoid wasting my time out of a grand total of 58 ranked games, and I’ve also had one legitimate crash/dc (also counts as a ‘DNF’). The games I quit were because we started 3v4 in a ‘team slayer’ and my teammates were already moving heavily into a negative k/d ratio. In one of those games the enemy team had an ‘Onyx’ player when we only had a ‘Diamond II’ as our highest ranked player and it was 3v4.
I climbed from ‘Plat I’ to ‘Plat VI’ solo in ‘Ranked Arena’ with controller input on ‘PC.’ I try my best not to tilt when I go on a losing streak, and I’ll usually queue right back into a new game! I’d say persistence and consistency with a ‘play to win’ attitude (as a team player) is my game plan to hit ‘Diamond I.’ I always use the ‘mark enemy position’ button to coordinate with my randomly paired teammates the best I can. If I’m playing poorly in a match, I’ll try and switch up my strategy in hopes of doing better.

This is kind of why I gave up on ranked. I’ve been stuck at plat6/diamond1 for weeks now. Even thought I’m onyx in H5. . . It doesn’t matter how good one is when your whole team is trash and someone quits every game. Then people only want to play slayer so they join ranked matches just to kill and ignore the actual objective. Which is why we need exp based on playing not only for challenges.
When I started playing ranked I could go up one whole level per game sometimes but now (even if I play well) i might get a 10th of one level further. Its like rocket league where you can lose one game and lose one rank then win 5 games and not get the ONE rank back…
Trying to get to or stay at Diamond is so nerve racking… Nobody wants to play the objective and I alwasy end up going against a god team when I have noobs and quitters on mine.
@PotentialPwnr, I totally get what you’re saying, but leaving isn’t always the worst thing that can happen (sometimes it is necessary to prevent getting demoralized). I had a random duo on my team today that literally had less than a 40% winrate (it was another random duo that had a 30% winrate) after over +60 matches together, I couldn’t believe they were ‘Plat/Diamond.’ I wasn’t about to ‘play so hard to carry them’ just to get them up to 41% win rate that I burned myself out for the entire day. They had no business being in our game. The loss happened as soon as the ‘SBMM’ put our team together and loaded us into the match.
It was a ‘CFT’ on Behemoth (my worst map), and after I took out half of the enemy team solo and grabbed their flag (I got it halfway by myself), I died. I then noticed all of my allies were ‘alive and well’ totally ignoring the flag/objective and walking in the opposite direction of where I got the flag to. Want to know what they were doing? They were off playing ‘Slayer’ far away in the corner of the map, so the enemy returned the flag with ease. Then the enemy team capped our flag without any resistance (except for me marking/pinging where the flag carrier was and having to 3v1) and I just ‘noped out’ of the match, I really didn’t want to waste my time, and by leaving I prevented myself from tilting going into other games.
I queued right back up and ended up losing my next three matches (had to go back and check), and then winning my next four matches (was three when I wrote this) in a row with one of the highest scores each time. So that is how it goes sometimes.
Yeah I’ll stick with it and give it some time. I guess the best thing would be to find a clan or something but that’s not my personality. I like solo que but it’s so frustrating at times. I would NEVER start a ranked match and be afk,
Yeah I don’t understand the ranking system. I finished a 3v4 and did pretty well considering and my rank took a huge dent. Then I struggled to almost get back to where I was after a couple good performances. I don’t know why progression is so slow during some matches and greater in others?
Ive always felt ranked play should be only FFA. To play as a ranked team you stand little chance unless you have your own team of four to play together regularly.
I like the aspect of team play and do loads better in a 4v4 then FFA.
Throughout all the Halos, my favourite mode has always been ranked slayer. Oddly though, when I am in a full team, I don’t perform as well as when I play on my own in a team, even though we are communicating. I don’t know any of the call-outs so that doesn’t help I guess, still love to play 4v4’s, whatever the format.
Definitely stick with it @Stalwart81. I just hit ‘Diamond I’ today (the rank I was working towards). I climbed all the way from ‘Plat I’ to ‘Diamond I’ solo after being stuck in ‘Plat VI’ for a while now. It feels really good! I could always drop back down to ‘Plat VI’, but the fact that I even reached ‘Diamond I’ is a huge achievement for me in ‘Halo.’
