Solo firefight starts Stuttering after a while

Right from the start I’ve been experiencing Stuttering in this game. I updated my nvidia driver to the latest version a couple of days ago (the one released after the halo one) and it seemed to fix the stutter in campaign and firefight solo, not MP sadly. While campaign seems to stay smooth now, only stuttering at checkpoints, firefight starts to stutter after the first few rounds or so and won’t stop until I quit the game, let it rest and come on again later. Doesn’t matter what settings I’m playing on.

Just wondering if anyone else is having this problem. It’s really strange, like there’s some kind of memory leak going on or something. I’ve noticed that If I try to start another game right after the first one, it stutters from the very beginning. I have to let the game “rest” before it’s smooth again.

Can you give a list of the hardware your PC is using? Also, are you experiencing stutters in other games as well after having updated the driver or was this issue around before as well?

If it is only Halo that is acting strangely, then check file integrity or maybe reinstall the game and see if that helps. Perhaps there is a Windows update trying to install and it might be conflicting with the game, which could just be pure coincidence.

However, since you are saying you need to let the game “rest” before it’s smooth, that seems like a memory leak which leads me to ask, exactly what GPU are you using and how old is it? At the same time, have you, by any chance, received a “Nvidia Driver Kernel has stopped responding message?” If so, there is a chance your GPU might be dying but that is worse case scenario.

Gtx 1060 6gb
i5 7500
16 GB ram

GPU isn’t that old. Built the pc 2 years ago. Haven’t had any messages about the kernal or anything like that.

This is definitely just a halo issue. The game actually ran better after I updated the driver. Not sure if this firefight problem was there before the driver update. The whole game ran consistently bad before so it’s hard to know for certain if it was there before.

I have a Windows feature update available but it’s not trying to download or anything. I’ll check the file integrity next time I’m on.

I could try setting power management mode back to optimal in Nvidia CP. Maybe it’s working the GPU too hard, although I don’t see why it would only affect firefight if that was the case.

What about other games, do you have the same problem with them as well or is it strictly only with Halo Reach? If you can, run another game that is resource-hungry and see if anything wrong happens. Also, next time when you run Halo, check the GPU and CPU usage and see if there is anything odd.
