social/ranked from an average halo player

i was never a 50. it took me almost 2 years just to get to a 40 but the ranked playlist was still fun. it felt great those games where we did beat a high ranked team. you dont have to be a super competitive 50 to enjoy ranked. its not a hard concept here. social playlist for those that dont want it and a ranked playlist for those that want it. sure its not perfect but who cares its still fun. if someone boosted than so what it will show when the game starts and they will lose.

Boosing simply isn’t a valid reason to get rid of the visibility of skill based ranks. EXP based ranks are boosted just as much, thus 343 contradicts themselves completely by putting that system in but not visible skill ranks.

The funny part is that people will still cheat and boost to hit SR-130. I don’t see why making the ranking system about time over skill will change this.

Yep, people did it in Reach. It will happen in 4 too.

exactly my point. ranked is just fun and a lot of people played it. flaws in all so what its still fun and the pro’s outweigh the cons. like i said i was never great at the game but when i hit 40 i felt good because i got to a goal. its like kids t-ball now where they are afraid people will get mad if they lose and lose rank. heck even nba jam on xbox live arcade has a ranking system.

There is no real reason to removed ranking, boosting will be part of gaming forever.

yeah i hope they dont take this as me being a jerk but maybe they just didnt have the time or couldnt do it correctly. having two options doesnt divide the community. its easy. SOCIAL/RANKED. give ranked just a few playlists. there is no reasonable excuse for there not to be. its not like halo 2 and halo 3 failed.

Pretty much. I have yet to hear ANYONE explain what the downside to having both ranked + social lists is.

yet 343 does not care what we want or what we say

This exactly. They want to reward the losers as much as the winners, so afraid they might lose some gamers at the beginning. Doesn’t work like that after elementary school 343. In six months when people finish the ranks and have nothing left to play for you will see a drop off.

yeah what downside is there to have two choices? it sure didnt hurt halo2 or halo3. if you dont like ranked then play social. if you dont want to play social then play ranked. this concept is so simple i dont understand why anyone would argue.

Yeah I guess people forget the number of players that Bungie banned in Reach due to network manipulation to reset challenges. The numbers were ridiculous, In the tens of Thousands all within 2 weeks and I remember one day where they announced that another 15,000 people had received the Ban Hammer.

It’s MUCH easier to Boost a progression system, Progression systems actually promote more Boosting and cheating than a skill based system. Why? Because if you cheat a skill based rank you’re only hurting yourself, you wont be able to play the gamemode with the boosted rank system because you would get dominated, thus being de ranked.

Call of Duty is another strong form of evidence that a Progressive system causes MASSIVE amounts of boosting, cheating and Hacking. Call of Duty has a ridiculous amount of boosters, cheaters and hackers, on both the PC, Xbox and PS3, before the patch last year, MW2 was filled to the brim with Hackers.

Reach also suffered many AFKers as well, something that was pretty much none existent in Halo 2 and 3.

The “Boosting” argument is completely invalid.

LOL notice how all the “NO RANKS” supporters are not posting in this topic. They should of put visible ranks in a separate competitive playlist. I care about ranks because it shows that I’m doing good. This is like changing the grading scale for school. It like A-F and changing it to C-F.

yeah it was just an excuse that 343 used. no real intelligent person would buy it. yes im still buying the game either way but its a shame that college football atmosphere where every game counts will be gone. now its more like pee wee football where they dont track wins and losses.

I agree with the point that the only reason they will not put in visual ranking is to cater to the players that aren’t that good at the game. They want everyone to feel like the “Top Dog,” because through the progression system anyone can reach the top and those arguing the type of armor you have shows skill, this argument is invalid. It shows who has the most time.

Honestly, it doesn’t even matter anymore. Not implementing a visible ranking system is just like banks giving out loans to people who they knew wouldn’t be able to pay them back. Simple concept. Drove us into a recession.

Hopefully 343 will learn by Halo 5

This is exactly the point. 343i needs to explain themselves.

They have been caught in a lie. They led us on to think we would get some validated form of a skilled ranking system, and then folded and made up this invisible rank BS.

It is almost as if they started planning for a system way late in the creative process, and then decided not to implement it, but waited to tell us so that people wouldn’t cancel their pre-orders. The blow back would be way less harsh if they would of announced these invisible ranks a month ago, not 4 days to launch. And to announce it in such a “IDGAF” manor through a live stream where 10k ppl are watching? WoW…thanks 343, thanks.

They should’ve just had both a progression and ranking system just like in Halo 3 but more evolved. Not completely exclude one or the other. Also have it to where one doesn’t affect the other. Plain and simple. Or even have a leveling ranking system with NO CAP. That way you’d never really be a top dog, just make it hard enough to level up. Nobody would reach the top because there isn’t one to reach but there’s still the incentive to keep playing and trying your best. There are so many different ways to come up with good ideas for a ranking system. They’re just lazy but whatever

puts on flame suit
I find it funny that many of you were saying that you didn’t care about having a number next to your name, as long as you got fair matches. And that’s exactly what happened. And yet you all are complaining about invisible rankings. Even though you have your trueskill!

well thanks for the good post guys i think we all made valid points. i’m not even one of those people that doesnt want change i like most of the changes made but taking something away that made halo more fun giving us the choice between social and ranked just doesnt make sense.
