Not just weekend only.
Before I continue I have a question, do the devs even read and respond to these forums? The lack of dev responses is kind of irritating.

343 I get it I get it you want to make halo big on the competitive side and I don’t have an issue with that at all. However I do believe not everyone wants to be competitive everyday whenever they play, I know I sure as heck don’t.
Anything can happen in real life, annoying customers, boss fired you, got in a fight, some relationship drama, etc and when a person that’s had one of the above happen he or she decides to play halo for relaxation purposes but that person won’t be able to because you can’t relax in a competitive environment.
That is where the social playlist would come in. The social playlist strong point is that it is relaxing and fun and that is why I believe it needs to be Permanent. Even someone with a lot of time on their hands will want to relax after a day of competing trying to get their rank up.
I’m willing to try your method for some time with it being a weekend playlist thing but I don’t think it will last long that way.

I agree their needs to be a balance between social and competition

That is not a good excuse, if anything their decision would make members of the community not buy the game.
Not everyone is going to play on a social playlist all day or whenever they play and not everyone is going to want to just compete all the time. This is not a good decision that they made.

Yeah i completely agree, it’s not like Halo Reach had a full suite of social playlists and worked perfectly fine, social gameplay should be kept very limited, those filthy scrubs disgust me and my entire MLG family.

I meant more that a few social playlists at once, not swapping between social and competitive. I may have misunderstood OP.
