"Social" Gaming Where Art Thou?

I played some Halo 5 last night and actually ran into a person with a microphone. This was pretty ground breaking because online gaming - at least for me - has been quiet ever since the creation of online parties and group chats. We were both pretty awe struck from the entire experience and it really made me miss the old days of trash talking strangers.

Has anyone else had a similar experience?

I mute everyone. All the time. I don’t need to hear how overpowered the shotgun is every single Warzone game.

I don’t mute anyone and I don’t hear anyone online, It sucks how many people are anti-social.

I only use a mic when in a party. No sense in trying to coordinate with randoms. I usually have music going through my headphones anyways.

Honestly, I don’t think it’s people being anti-social, I think it’s just a result of everyone being used to parties. Online gaming got really quiet, so we don’t bother with plugging in a mic.

Weren’t we all randoms to our friends at some point? lol

Maybe

I mute about 95% of the people with mics. The 25% who don’t realize their Kinect is a mic. The 25% who are children, the 25% cursing about how bad they are doing or how much their team sucks when they are at the bottom of the leaderboard, the 10% singing/rapping, and the 10% who like to abuse the anonymity of the internet to be -Yoinks!-. The five percent who are either someone I consider a friend or who are actually trying to be helpful don’t get muted.

Yeah, there is a reason I only tend to break mine out when some of my friends are on.

Man what happened to the Halo community? Man we changed.

This is about the same for me, if I hear someone doing callouts and communicating I’ll do the same.

Music :musical_note: playing is a problem… As is singing and/or screaming into the mic… And the occasional squeaker issues.

I usually play alone and I have only run into a couple of people who were talking that weren’t annoying or rude.

Nothing, people are still over exaggerating small situations and problems like they always are so i don’t see a difference.

Because 9 out of 10 times I use a mic, I run into:

  • People screaming - People swearing their heads off - Little kids - People playing loud music - People playing loud terrible music - People who don’t realize their Kinect picks up their mic - People who don’t realize their mics are on and they are having a conversation somewhere else - People who do realize their mics are on and they are having a conversation somewhere else.I’m not going to bother with game chat if I can almost guarantee a good experience in party chat.

Exactly this.

The only time i dont mute someone playing music, is when they’re playing Metallica or AC/DC which is rare unfortunately.

The day the new Star Wars movie came out,

Some deplorable piece of -Yoink- announced to everyone that Han Solo dies as the Warzone game started. I had been looking forward to that movie for months, and that really changed the experience for me.Ever since then, I mute the online trash (which, as people mentioned, is 99% of the people who talk anyway).
