Like many of you, I have been playing Halo for quite some time. I do not want to speak for everyone, but I would say that a majority of the people who play/have played Halo look to have fun. “Fun” can mean a plethora of different things, but I think that most social Halo gamers just enjoy having a good time playing multiplayer, either via LAN or Xbox Live. Some of my fondest memories from the Halo series over the years have been my buddies and I hooking up TVs for a LAN party and simply playing Halo over Xbox Live.
I like competitive Halo as much as the next gamer; that style of play brings a real adrenaline rush and adds a new aspect to a game that already brings much joy. At the same time competitive Halo does not have the same type of appeal as does social Halo. By social Halo I mean game types like Big Team Battle. BTB harkens back to playing crazy LAN matches with one’s friends and there is chaos all about.Halo: The Master Chief Collection (HMCC), gives a lot to Halo fans old and new. It gives us a kick of nostalgia giving us an option to play Halo CE online, along with remastering the beloved multiplayer game changer that was Halo 2. HMCC also brings us some old favorites over the years like SWAT and (the newly added) Team Doubles. 343 did a wonderful job bringing all of these great titles together under one 60 FPS and 1080p roof, but there is something left to be desired. A thirst that can only be quenched with more options for social gaming.
BTB is great, but there are still an enormous amount of potential that has been left untapped. Halo 3 introduced us to the legitimacy of many Halo 2 custom games like Zombies and the eventual titan that is Grifball. Not to mention the introduction of Multi-Team and Rocket Race. Many of these game types came with their own rotating playlist and were the game types that inspired the creation of the Action Sack playlist on Halo 4. The Action Sack playlist was a place where it was possible to go in with a few friends and have fun regardless of the individual skill levels that were brought into the game. Let’s face it, one does not want to want to bring friends into ranked playlists, let lone competitive playlists like team slayer or HCS.
I’m sure that there are people who would want some of the Action Sack game types to be in a single playlist, myself included. But I also realize that this is not plausible given the amount of playlists currently included in HMCC and the amount of people that would eventually play those individual playlists would not make the inclusion of those playlists efficient. I ask that 343 would create a playlist like Action Sack that would include social game types, for example: Infection, Rocket Race, Multi-Team, Fiesta Slayer, Husky Raid, and Shotty Snipes just to name a few.I’m going to be honest: regardless of how this thread is met, I will continue to play and enjoy Halo. I would just like to be able to have more options when it comes to looking to have a good time playing Halo, regardless of the skill levels that players bring to the table. Including Action Sack would also be able to grab the attention of new gamers who are looking to have a good time and do not want to feel excluded from playing Halo online because they are not as good as the people on the other team.
With that, thank you for bringing all of these wonderful games together, it is truly appreciated.
This is DGE Groovy signing off.
