"Social" CTF

Prepare for a rant.

As we all know, there is NOTHING social about the Social CTF Playlist. It’s littered with try hards. I haven’t come across one casual game in that playlist. But the reason why it’s such a sweaty gametype is simple. IT’S THE ONLY CTF GAMETYPE AT ALL.

I don’t mean to bash 343, but come on. Something you’ve got to learn is that just because you put the word “social” in front of a gametype DOES NOT make it casual. Since its the ONLY CTF Playlist, every flag monger in the entire population of Halo 5 are going to play it. No competitive group will see the social banner and say “Well shucks, guess this isn’t for us, even though we love CTF. Guess we can’t play this competitively then.”

Listen, if a brand of chips came out called “Cheddar Lovers’ Chips,” does that mean that only people who love that chedduh cheese will buy it? NO. If the Xbox One was called the Xbox Casual, would there only be casual players on it? LAWD NO.

If you want to make the CTF Social playlist a real social playlist, you can’t do that without having a ranked CTF also. Halo 3 nailed the ranked/social playlists because they had both! By adding a PERMANENT ranked CTF, it’ll divide the social and competitive players, so each side can have the experience they want.

So please 343, whatever “social” gametypes you have planned, don’t forget to add a ranked playlist also.

Does anybody have any thoughts on this?

Plus, players pushing for the flag commendation sweat it. I agree on the 1 gametype, make slightly bigger maps to thin out the spartan speed advantage in H5 and add 1 flag and maybe stockpile. but 100% 1 flag.

Made me sad when I saw the amount of try-hards in this gametype. I was stupid to believe I would finally have a “safe haven” playlist.

Seems to me that B.T.B. will remain the truly closest to social in the gametypes, so I’ll stick with it. Yea, there are try-hards in it, too, but it isn’t as severe as Social CTF.

343 doesn’t understand the concept of social. They think social just means no rank. They put in social snipers and crap like that. I really question 343’s intelligence atleast twice a day.

Totally agree, OP, but the gametype in this list is going to change every week.
The only way it will be truly social, though, is if there is already a similar competitive playlist that rewards more XP and RP.

5v5 is the problem. Maps like Regret, Truth, Overgrowth etc. are not built for 5v5. They are better suited 3v3 if you ask me. The spawns break in 5v5. It’s so bad.

the problem is no party restriction.

for me social = force party of 1.

Encountered multiple samespartancompanysameemblemsameprefixgamertag full 5 groups that crushed my group of solo searchers, got 3 caps againts in less than 3 minutes sometimes.

This is not social, is simply “full groups go to farm commendations for CTF in this playlist against noobs that hope to play social”.

yes, maybe force party of 2 so you´re still able to play with a friend.

true, got so often spawn killed

But how am I supposed to play with my low ranked friends? 343 is to blame for putting commendations that promote farming.

Uhm you have all this sweaty matches because this “social” playlists are basicly the same as a ranked one. You get a rank (hidden) and you have the MMR.

I wonder what is the metric by which the OP and others measured whether the players they came up against were “tryhards”

I wonder if it had anything to do with losing.

Because there is no such thing as a “pure” social game type that isn’t just a fun mode.

Nothing stops a team of Onyxs from coming in and pubstomping you in whatever social playlist you bring up, whether it’s CTF or Slayer.

I think they need more than 1 social playlist, but maybe that’s just me.

We have two now. BTB and Social CTF, the topic at hand here. And when Hammer Storm releases Social CTF will become Social Assault and we’ll see Grifball added to the playlists which will undoubtedly be a social playlist. I’m not sure what they’re doing with Fiesta. It’s coming but they haven’t announced a playlist for it. It’s just kind of there.

And while it’s filled with the most tryhards than any other playlist, Warzone & Warzone Assault are also social playlist. May not be the best social experience but it’s there.

What you mean to say is we need more Social Arena playlists, let’s be honest BTB was never arena. We should have Social Slayer + the Social playlist with rotating gametypes. That’d be perfect if you ask me.

I think another one of the problems with the social playlists is people like me, I always play to win, even if I’m playing to win and have fun at the same tie like in social CTF. I have tried to be less competitive, but I always have to win so I end up murdering the people that are trying to be casual.

Seriously? Aside from the game where Kampy was on the other team, I’ve played nothing but scrubs in this playlist. Maybe it reflects my actual skill (which has gone down considerably since I stopped playing after placing Diamond 5 and Onyx), but I’ve been racking up kills by just running in circles, and when I have a free moment, I grab the flag and juggle it back to my base for a point.

Social CTF has been the most fun I’ve had in Halo 5 in a LONG time.

I have to agree. Most games are harder than diamond tier arena matches. Yesterday I came across a whole team of Achilles wearing farmers who just spawn killed us the whole game and din’t go for the flag at all. I know you’re better than most of us but if you care at all about owning everyone, go play ranked.

1.7 ratio!! Yeah I think it reflects your skill, lol.

343 doesn’t understand “social”, these “social” playlists they come out with are actually ranked with ranks hidden. For onyx players like myself, it’s just another miserable sweat fest that I can’t play unless I have friends on to roll with (and even then we still get smashed by full squads).

When I turn on this game alone my only options are Warzone Assault which gets old incredibly fast. I also routinely run into squads in that. So then I’m left with nothing to play.

I can say with 1000% certainty that I enjoyed Halo 4 MM way more than Halo 5.

Achilles doesn’t mean someone is good, it just reflects that they probably play Warzone almost religiously all day.
