> As part of a slim first look at Halo 4, 343 Industries’ first game proper since Bungie departed the series, it’s been revealed that you can change every aspect of your Spartan’s appearance - and that doing so would influence the way that the game plays.
But you don’t need to worry, I’m sure that this just means that they’ll show more love for the competitive players, and players that want a balanced experiece.
So…
Social
Has the perk system and dedication based ranking system.
Ranked
Has perks off for every playlist and a nice skill based ranking system.
Update:
> Both O’Connor and creative director Josh Holmes acknowledged that the change could prove controversial amongst Halo’s community. “I expect a variety of different reactions,” Holmes told Eurogamer, “One of the great things about Halo is we have the ability to support a variety of different play styles and play lists, create experiences that cater to different player types and community desires.”
There’s a big change that people that want a balanced and competitive experience get perk free playlsits in the Ranked hopper and their own skill based ranking system.
Everyone will be happy.
Again as I’ve said a million times not. The customizalbe loadouts will change the game “Fundamentally” for a player. So probably just personally preference stuff and gimicky eye candy that really won’t change the game that much.

If you can have something that others haven’t unlocked yet, then the game is unbalanced already.
If I can have a bit more jump because unlocked an armor piece, I got an advantage over players that can’t jump as high, even if it’s only a 5% or 10% increase; I can ninja others more easily, it was made easier for me.

Oh yeah, because you and I can’t own a noob who thinks he can jump higher will make him better. Also their will probably be down sides to them like weaker armor and shields.

They can’t be that dumb, unbalanced gameplay is the reason why Reach sucked for competitive players and they’ll do the same mistake?
Someone unlocked boots that remove fall damage, wow!
Someone unlocked lighter armor and get speed bonus from sprinting, in a chase, I get assassinated

I really really really hope this is what they do, UNLESS the perk system is actually extremely legitimate and allows for competitive play. And since there’s apparently no beta now. I hope they have MLG on speed-dial =/.
As far as I would like to agree with your suggestion, I have to see the perk system in action. In case they somehow manage to make the perk system support competitive gameplay, which I personally very much doubt. But in case it doesn’t work, they shouldn’t even try implementing it to ranked. As ranked it supposed to be the more competitive side of the matchmaking.

Don’t mention down/up sides, it just makes me imagine how much they’ll ruin the game.
Wrist armor (or gloves) that makes you reload faster, but melees are weaker…
Chest armor that makes you more resistant to explosions, but weaker to bullets…

Now, if someone can get me the link for that, I can update the OP, and I can make people calm down and have faith in 343i.

Indeed you do. Only thinking about those examples makes me scared.
I can’t wrap my head around unlocking things in Halo, not because I wouldn’t like it but because I don’t know how It would work.
Comparing it with Battlefield 3 now, here you can unlock things for you weapon making it better and then you start your game with this weapon. Halo has alot of power weapons and you pick them up on the map. So can you only unlock things and customize starting weapons (BR, DMR, Pistol), or will you now be able to start a game with power weapons?
Or will we only be able to unlock AAs, so to get the jetpack you must reach the rank of Major?
