Social ain't social in this game.

I’ve only played one arena playlist in this game more than 10 games, and that’s Big Team. However, I’ve noticed that since I’ve started, the enemies I face now are all extremely skilled and downright frustrating to fight. I go negative every game now almost, and am more often than not on a team that gets absolutely destroyed. What’s more, on the website it lists my top CSR as Gold, in Big Team. And as I’ve played more, the rank has been going up. It might not show in game, but trust me. Social is just as 100% ranked as ranked.

Here’s
Your social game mode.

I wish the announcers voice was removed in Social, it seems to make the atmosphere very competitive.

Welcome to BTB without Guest 1, 2, 3

Because social isn’t ranked you could be going up against bronze or champion level opponents, just depends. The only benefit to social is you won’t be ranking down, lots of people hop on social to warm up for ranked play.

Wow, that looks good. How well is it working? Are enough people using it?

just keep checking the customs lobby, i found a match of 17 at one point

It was always like this

The community wants social playlist they get social playlist. Then complain about getting match with people above their level in social playlist. Sorry to sound so negative but this kind of thing just irritates me I just had to say it for once. Just because its labeled social and doesn’t have a rank doesn’t mean everyone will take it less serious some will put 100% effort in every match ranked or not.

The problem is that not that many casual people play Halo 5 anymore. Most people who play Halo are tryhards. There were so many other big games that came out right after Halo that were more casual. The Social playlist should have been there at launch. People already left to the other games because at launch there were like 5 really similar looking Arena maps, 3 Warzone maps, then outside of Warzone you were playing people your own skill level all night. Casuals don’t want to play people their own level, they want to play people below them so they feel powerful & dominate. It’s way easier to do that in a game like Black Ops 3 or Battlefront when there is hardly any skill ranking & a way bigger pool of casuals. So those games did a better job at attracting the casuals than Halo 5 did, that’s all it boils down to.

Also, you have to take into account that most casuals in general are not on Xbox. Yes, there are some, but the PS4 has literally sold about 2.5x better than the Xbox One has. The last numbers were like: PS4: 32 million units sold, Xbox One: 12-14 million units sold. Where are most of the casuals? On PS4…

Want social… play mcc… Action Sack is as fun as ever.

Unfortunately the matchmaking and disconnect issues are still a major issue in the MCC, which makes it more chore than fun to play. Also, is it just me or do people only ever vote for Halo 4 games in Action Sack. I don’t have anything against Halo 4 but I don’t play the MCC to play the Halo that came out 3 years ago.

I get a pretty good mix and haven’t had any connection issues.

You see, social is where people of all skill levels come in to destroy each other.

Ranked is where equally skilled teams (usually) match against each other.

Take your pick

Idk what you think social is supposed to be. There are no ranked barriers keeping the bronze away from the champion level players, and there has always been a huge skill gap in players. This is the only reason that having no split screen is good in this game, as there are no totally inexperienced guests dragging your team down. It is good that there is a hidden CSR, that might affect who you play with, as it hopefully cuts down on people going 0/20

You are right, Social isn’t Social anymore it’s just ranked without showing your ranks. And everyone saying you have the same chance to play a Bronze player as a Champion, you are wrong… Look at my recent games in Social, everyone I play is a Onix/Champion level player, that isn’t coincidence. Social is the same skill based matchmaking as Ranked

I have a theory, and I’m not meaning to bash on the game here but…

I just don’t think there is much of a skill gap in this game. I can’t quite put my finger on it because on the surface it SEEMS like it has an immense skill gap. But I think only in terms of aiming. Map control, knowledge, etc. are all pretty much thrown out the window. Since every weapon does absurd damage and has fast killtimes, even sub-par players can cause trouble.

So really even the social playlists aren’t “social” because it seems like everyone is good at the game. And before anyone jumps on me for being bad or whatever, go ahead and look at my Halo career if you REALLY want to. I am just suggesting a theory here.

They just need more social gametypes because after a while high ranks dont want to play rank all the time r they may use a couple social games to warm up and get their aim right before going into ranked.
If there were more social playlist all these high ranked players who go into social for fun would be distributed to more than just one or two gametypes.
I play social sometimes and right off the bat you can tell one someone is good. Maybe they should have Ar starts and SMG secondaries idk.

A BTB rank sounds like a bug that needs to be reported; Possibly leftover code from when BTB was ranked? Or simply the game noting you’ve played in Arena, then Yoinking! its self when trying to assign a CSR because the playlist has no CSR’s. If it started you in Gold then that would probably be because gold is average. If it keeps going up even though you’ve noted that you keep losing… Well, it doesn’t sound like a working CSR. I wonder if it will just keep climbing while you play endlessly, and if so, what will happen if it hits Onyx and presumably Champion, given that the game handles those ranks differently.

Anyway! Here is the concept of social; No CSR based matchmaking, everyone gets tossed in together and starts shooter.

Social playlists are BAD for lower skilled players. They only think that social playlists are good because they don’t have to see a rank, when the reality is they would have much fairer games playing ranked. Theoretically, a party consisting of the top 5 players in the world can match a party consisting of the bottom 5 players in the world in social.

A major factor in why many people play social, even if they wont admit it, is because they want to match people far below their own skill level so they can get easy wins and giggle about how they destroyed some newbs. The other major factor, the one which provides the low skill players for these guys to destroy, is because the lack of a rank makes it feel as though its a casual experience. This is because people misinterpret CSR rankings as being about going super tryhard, rather than understanding that its a tool that’s supposed to make your experience better overall. In the end, the only difference between a Social and Ranked playlist is that in Social, the barriers designed to segregate the players along skill lines are removed, degrading the experience of low skill and casual players.

Thus, I feel social gamemodes shouldn’t replicate competitive gamemodes as this will invariably be the result. Too bad there’s no way to make Speed Halo, or Zombies, or Juggernaught, or Grifball, or Race, or any of the gametypes that would work properly with an unranked system…

Some teams are more competitive then others. I have played with some guys who take Big Team and Warzone very seriously but there is still teams and clans that play the social playlists a little more laid back then they would the ranked ones.
