So you want to come back to Reach

I have seen a lot of posts lately of players saying they will return to Reach once the game is made backwards compatible. That’s great I say but I thought I would put together a post to bring you up to speed with some things that are happening in the game before you do.

  • Laggy Connection. It isn’t the best most game are just full of United Nations Parties with players from all over the world. It makes for some very laggy games. - Thundercatting - this is still rife in reach. It involves the practise of searching with a guest account and signing out that account in the voting lobby so everyone goes back to searching. It is favoured by players who want to control what map they play on or who they play. What I means for legit players is endless search and research and can take 15 mins to find a game. This method is favoured by Tru players if you know what I mean. Thanks for your great instructional video and how to Thundercat on youtube BB. that really helped the community. NOT. - Modders - yes they still do appear rarely. Modders will be able to run very quickly, have low gravity and will probably be able to kill you with a laser while holding an AR in their hands or throw a banshee at you like throwing a grenade. Modders wont shoot you through walls or around corners. They wont teleport everywhere around the map. They wont eat bullets ( well maybe) That crap is all just lag ( see point one about connection) - Griefers - yes there are a few. They will betray you for weapons and destroy the brand new Wraith you got into. They are just bad in general but the best defence is just keep playing normally and don’t engage them. They will eventually betray someone and get booted. Shooting them reduces the chance of a boot option so please let them do all the damage and they will be dealt with. If you have been hogging the sniper rifle up on a cliff in hemmorage and not shoot the wraith while your team is being spawn trapped and you get betrayed that is not a griefer. that’s a pissed off inheritor dealing out some karma to your noobie -Yoink-. - Connection manipulators and Host booters - this still goes on in a 5 year old game. Some players are still cheating by manipulating network conditions to force host to a friend or some one else that would favour them in a game. These guys are butthurt bad kids will still boot you offline should you get a lead or just piss them off. - Full parties of inheritors in BTB- You will come up against them. Yes some of us still like to play and play with like minded guys in big parties. They know everything about the game and will work together to control a map but they are not unbeatable. So when you see them don’t quit. Stick around and challenge yourself. Join them and learn. - There is no way to get Blue Flames, Red Flames or nameplates. Don’t make the 100th post for this in the forums They wont be coming back. - If you Commendation Boost with guests or AFK in games you will be hit with bans - You will get a quit probation for habitual quitting - Custom Challenges are dead and wont come back either. All in all reach is still fun even play Europeans and Mexicans on bad connections all the way from Australia. if you bump into me online don’t forget to say gidday and then -Yoink!- the crap out of my dead body.

I wouldn’t say theres anything wrong with full parties of players in certain game modes, but it would be better if the matchmaker matched them with other people in full teams as well.

Agree 100% with that statement. I think everyone has a right to play in full parties but please match us against full parties too.

You make it like sound like no one has experienced this yet where I have so it won’t feel any different when I play it on the xb1

Holy -Yoink-, overdecorating Reach’s 2015 problems. I haven’t been modded in about a month. Laggy connection is dependent on where you are from in the world so if you’re from Australia playing BTB of course you are going to lag holy derp. Thundercatting rarely happens like at all in MM. Griefers well I wouldn’t know I only search in parties. Connection manipulators and host booters? Literally no one host boots and I haven’t been DDoSd in almost a year. Full parties are actually a minority in this game. Yes there are still ways to get red flames, you can buy codes online and or licence transfer. People can and will commendation boost. It isn’t hard to avoid the ban.

This is coming from a dude that still plays Reach.

I love Halo reach and no matter what I am going to play it no matter the connection

I’ll be playing reach again for the campaign. Still one of my favorites but i highly doubt i’ll be playing much multi player.

Thanks Slayer of Flood, good recap for the people who haven’t played Reach in a while. Though some of these come with most games, like a few modders, griefers, etc.

Delicious salt…
Reach is still great, I’m not sure why you feel the need to hate on it so much.

Don’t think OP’s hating on it, just explaining in depth the bad things with Halo Reach. Though it’s more like bad things that come with FPS multiplayer. You can find a lot of these in any other game. Just gotta push through it to get to the fun of the game.

I’ll be going back to reach for sure, gotta get inheritor

Me too. I still play Reach. I will play until I max out my Rank.

also forgot to mention some of the modes are rather uninhabited as well, although that could change tomorrow.

The population wont be an issue and it hardly is now. I still enjoy it more than 5, WAY more to do.

You forgot to mention that it’s only 30 FPS, it was hard to adjust to that after playing MCC in 60 fps. Aside from that and occasional lag, I have no major complaints with Reach, I have never been modded on, or if I have it wasn’t obvious enough for me to catch it. I’ve seen videos of it happening though. Ironically, 5 years into its life cycle Reach has held its playability longer than H3 due to no ranking system and file browser.

No Hate buddy. Hell I still play it every day. Just a tongue in cheek wrap of what players have been missing out on. and an attempt to explain a few things to save a thousand posts on the forums from all the newbies who have picked up reach in the $5 bin at their local game shop.
