Lets take a journey through time. 7 months or so to be exact. Halo 4 just came out and its expected to be great. Many of you guys posted on this forum and said you wanted Halo 4 to be very similar to Halo 1 and 2. Well guess what, 343 listened to all you and made Halo 4 exactly like the previous halo games. What you guys did not realize was that they pretty much released an identical copy of the previous Halo games. Now all of you go back on the forums and say “Man Halo 4 sucks! Its exactly like Halo 2!” You got what you wished for didn’t you? A similar feel and play style as earlier Halo games? For the record, I did not like armor abilities. But you know what? Halo, as a series needed it. It NEEDED a change, good or bad, to keep the series alive. You really want Halo 4, 5, and 6 to all be exact copies of Halo 1, 2, and 3? If Halo is going to remain popular, it needs to evolve and change. I want Halo 4 to be new and different, not the same old formula. Halo 1, 2, and 3 were great games! I can pop them in my Xbox anytime and play them. Why do I need a newer version of the same game? Its time the series changed and evolved into something amazing. Keeping ties to its past will only hinder its progress.
Halo: CE → Halo 2 —> Halo 3 —> Halo 4
Halo: CE was great and started everything off. Halo 2 was a multiplayer god. Halo 3 took what was good and added on (Forge, and theater. You people take these features for granted) I want Halo 4 to do the same thing. Take the good from Halo 3 and add on.
I cant wait, Im sure 343 understands that they have to bring something new to the table to keep the franchise fresh. Welcome to Waypoint =)
Halo 1, 2, and 3 were really good games
Halo 2 had the best cinematic presentation and soundtrack, I hope that Halo 4 is even better than Halo 2 in this regard (my and the reviewer’s perception of good cinematic presentation), as well as multiplayer quality, something that pleases everyone, and a great campaign.
And finally, I hope that it is even better than Halo 2’s campaign, which in my opinion was the best.
I still play Halo 2’s campaign to this day, that is how good I think it is. I hope that Halo 4 will have a similar effect, it has been a long time since a legendary game has come out in the modern gaming industry, in the last few years games have been good but not super super awesome, even games like Skyrim and Skyward Sword have their faults.
Halo 4 should have a ton of new and interesting features, something to progress the series on the level of Resident Evil 4 or Call of Duty 4 did to their respective franchises, but also take the best from every Halo game and learn from the worst parts.
you guys make me want to hurt myself in strange ways.
halo 1 and 2 are just as different as halo 1 and reach.

Yes they were. The difference is that most people enjoyed Halo 2’s changes while Halo Reach’s changes made many people dislike the game.

Do you have any idea how many BR SMG hate threads there are on bnet?
How long have you been playing this game.
Let me guess, 2009?
Halo 1 and Halo 2 are so different in almost every aspect, comparing them the way you did makes me question everything about you.

you make me so upset.
Halo 2 was a great multiplayer game but because of the resources at the time it is not the “god” so many people think it is. Halo 2 multiplayer had poor hit registration and button combos that made the game exploitable. All this combined with the number of online cheaters made halo 2 a lot less than people make it out to be (its still my 2nd favorite halo)
Halo 3 added BR spread, which next to bloom is the worst addition to this franchise period.
Halo reach added bloom. Nuff said.
By the way, I C WAT U DID THERE not mentioning reach in your chronology.
get off the bandwagon kid, its unbecoming.
Ive been playing since 2001 buddy. I never implied Halo 1 and 2 were similar

kafka, read the quote. Im not talking to you, im taking to acid the wraith.

This will never happen. The groundwork for all of Halo 4’s mechanics has likely been established for some time now, and 343 Industries will not listen to feedback concerning an unreleased game (hence the word “feedback”). What people are doing is volunteering ideas for discussion with other forum members; anyone who thinks that 343 is watching and taking notes is, I think, mistaken.
Regarding this stale penchant people have for ranking previous Halo titles: recall, if you will, the utter opprobrium with which the arrival of Halo 2 was met, or the plethora of complaints surrounding the release of Halo 3, and you’ll likely see a pattern begin to emerge. Even the announcement of Combat Evolved was met with an outcry from fans who were awaiting a Myth sequel. I have no doubt (regardless of the pejorative replies this statement will no doubt engender) that in years to come, Reach will be looked back on with the fondness of nostalgia as well.

Absolutely agree. I’m sure around the time Halo 6 is being released a certain number of people will create threads concerning how the game “needs to go back to it’s Reach roots” or something of the same accord. It’s honestly mind boggling how some people think.
As long as we have A GOOD hitscan utility weapon and features that players can not abuse I will be happy. Reach No bloom has made me start playing again. 85% was okay as well. As long as 343 learns from past mistakes, I do not think we have to worry.

They way you change Halo is by adding new guns, new gametypes and new maps. Don’t add things like bloom and AAs
I want it to be “like” CE and H2 in several ways.
First of all: I want the game to have that feeling of mystery CE had.
Secondly: I want it to have a deep and rich story, that takes risks, like H2 had.
Third: I want it to have great maps in the “spirit” of H2.
And I can go on.
But like I’ve said in other threads before: thats “like” in a similar way, not in a “it was good that way, just copy-paste it” way.
when we say we want halo 4 to be “like” halo 1 or 2 or 3 we are saying we want certan aspects that made the game entertaining like i want Halo 3 theatre mode where you can have people watch films with you unlike reach.
> Now all of you go back on the forums and say “Man Halo 4 sucks! Its exactly like Halo 2!”
Wouldn’t catch me doing that. Everyone who disliked/hadn’t played Halo 2 probably would, though.
