Can someone tell me why we don’t have Team BR’s or BR magnum starts in Slayer? AR starts require no skill to kill a Spartan, just hold the trigger and spray a Spartan? Doesn’t seem very hard does it? It ISN’T! I’ve been killed by Spartans with ARs because they saw me first, but give these kids a BR vs my BR and I’ll out shoot them almost every time. If I want a BR I have to fight some random noob on my team off. Or get shot cross map because the other team camps the BR spawn. Also, what’s the deal with not having a BR variant spawning on every map, example Stasis… Just give me a BR start 343i, that’s all I want.
Okay, I’m not sure why your bringing up the whole “AR takes no skill” argument. It’s been brought up plenty of times and no one cares, because each weapon has their own role to preform and the AR is actually useful for once.
There are plenty of reasons why there are no BR starts which I’m sure many people will post. One of the commonly brought up reasons is the fact both teams will camp their side of the map and just take pot shots at one another turning the game into a campfest. I for one enjoy the AR-Magnum starts, and don’t really have a problem with it (also considering that I hate the BR).
Because the BR is no longer the utility weapon in H5
the pistol serves as the utility weapon and has thusly
replaced the BR as the starting weapon in most playlists save BTB and people are even calling for them to get rid of the BR as the starting weapon in that playlist as well
Because 343.
AR-Magnum starts work really well in this game.
As for the Assault Rifle… The AR isn’t underpowered, but functions with as much power, (If not more) than it did in Halo 4.
If you get shot first, you’re going to die first. So what does BR vs BR going to do to make a difference? If you don’t strafe or take any other necessary skills, you’re still going to lose. All I can imagine in this scenario is two spartan’s standing still, shooting each other with the same gun.
That being said, the same can be said for the SMG, Storm Rifle, and the SAW. SMG being a loadout weapon in Warzone and Breakout. Yet all three of these weapons require you to “spray ‘n’ pray” but that’s just the normality.
And no, BR is considered a power weapon. As it should be. It has the effective range, probably more than it should.
Basically, the reason why BR isn’t a Starting Weapon is because it plays differently and functions differently compared to previous titles.
Halo 3 worked really well with BR starts, cause well… It sucked. But the AR at the time was trash and underpowered, and the magnum’s fire rate was so -Yoink!- slow compared to what we have now.
There’s way plenty of reasons more as to why we don’t have BR starts… Ex: Spawn Killing is much easier. It may be fun when you do it, but not when they do it to you… If you get what I’m saying.

- Not a valid reason why we can’t have a BR start variant.
- Still not a valid reason.
- The BR has never been the “starting weapon” in all or most playlist in Halo. It was always a variant for most playlists. Halo 2 had Team BRs. Halo 3 had Team BRs. Halo Reach had Slayer Pro. These are all variants of playlists that make the BR a starting weapon. The only playlists that officially had BR starts were BTB and Hardcore/MLG. Other than that no playlist was only BR starts. You are literally avoiding the argument of having more variety in the game because the “pistol is SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOD!” This isn’t an argument whether or not it is good. It is an argument about VARIETY. Just to be clear, NO ONE is asking to replace the pistol. ALL PEOPLE WANT IS SOME VARIETY. This can be achieved by making Slayer BR starts pop up around 30% of the time.

But why can’t BR starts be a variant in Team Slayer and FFA? Also Since Halo 2, the BR/DMR has been considered “weapon tier 2”. There used to be a clear distinction between the tiers. Today the magnum is on the same tier as the BR. If the BR is still considered a “power weapon”, then wouldn’t the Magnum be the same thing? And if they are they same thing, wouldn’t that make it okay to have a BR start variant in Team Slayer and FFA about 30% of the time? Yes BR starts would change the way the maps flowed and would mean people would have to relearn how to play the maps. At this point in the cycle, it would add some variety to the playlists and provide a different overall experience in a match. I don’t know why anyone would be against having BR starts 30% of the time.
Spawn killing as in map control? Yes map control would be much easier with BRs, but also harder as well. It will be easier to watch routes and engage a slightly longer distances, but since Halo 5 maps are not built well for power positions, players can easily break map control at longer ranges as well.
Quite simply the reason br do not exist because the br is too easy to use. The Magnum is a good choice for starting weapon because some one with a good shot can challenge another person who hasca br/dmr but both of those weapons are more powerful than the Magnum.

The problem is that the BR doesn’t function as the utility weapon in H5
its not that the pistol is “soooooo good” the pistol has just replaced the BR in that slot
I personally would prefer BR starts, but unfortunately it just wouldn’t work I don’t think

This is fact. They tested BR starts during the Beta and it received extremely negative reviews by the player base. It turned a fun arena style gameplay into camping snipe fest that wasn’t fun at all.

Well I wouldn’t go that far, I think AR starts are much more campy but that’s just me

Really? I haven’t seen anyone camp with the AR. Shotguns and Ranged weapons yes. But most players I see with ARs are usually Rushing. Mainly most players in matches (including me) ditch the AR with the 1st weapon I see. (Unless it’s the BR which replaces my pistol)
Now if it’s Warzone, I can understand for its about defending objectives, and they have attachments and scopes to allow you to utilize the AR as a real assualt rifle.
AR - Magnum starts are fine.

Wouldn’t Slayer BRs be better as a rotating game type in the slayer playlist along with other variants like Slayer Pro, Covey Slayer, Promethean Slayer, and the like?
Because, as shown in the Beta, BR starts really suck in Halo 5. When everybody has a BR, there is not nearly as much map movement or variety in the weapons that are used. The BR in Halo 5 is no longer a utility weapon, whose role is now owned by the pistol.
Plus, it’s good that the AR is actually useful in its intended niche now. I, for one, like that Halo 5 is not a one-gun game.

can we stop calling the pistol a utiltiy weapon just because 343 tries to label it as such…
the pistol a the starting weapon in an tier based weapon sandbox, the phrase “utility weapon” is nothing more then a shallow catch phrase, a remnant of OG Halo…

Why stop calling it what it is? It can be good at long, medium, and short ranges and it is one of the most versatile weapons on the game. I await your (gameplay based) argument as to how calling the Magnum a utility weapon is inaccurate.
Because the I can’t BR crowd didn’t want a competitive shooter anymore.

I think slayer pro is pointless in Halo 5 since it was nothing more than a set load out and spartan ability in the other games. The only thing you could really change up is power weapon layouts and the weapons themselves, not really worth another game type rotation imo.
