Someone mind filling me in? Because, last I checked, the Elites were chilling on their Prophet-free home planet. So why have I seen screenshots and a clip of gameplay showing them as the enemy again? And while I’m on the subject of the Covenant, will they be talking in English? Because, it wouldn’t make much sense if we were able to understand them in H3, but now we can’t.
I believe the Elites we’ve seen 117 fight are part of the Storm. Who still follow the religion and philosophy of the San 'Shyuum. And in the videos with grunts, they spoke English. Saying, ‘Demon!’ I’m sure the Elites will speak English too.
i dont think theres a actual reason why the elites are attacking us most likely the elites have broken the peace treaty with chief while he was in cryo or that the storm covenant is a faction that may have never known about the treaty
Not all the Elites sided with us. These Elites seem to be interested in the Didact because he hated Humans and so they’re interested in finding and meeting him, or something like that.
Religious Covie splinterfaction.

Thank you for giving a clear, consise, SPOILER FREE, answer. So, basically, the Covenant still exists in a very weakened form.
Hard to say without spoiling stuff.
Storm covenant.
Well,
the last time we saw the Arbiter in the Thursday War preview, it pretty much looked like he was going to get glassed by a fleet under the control of the Servants of Abiding Truth.
So it would seem, since I guess - Requiem sort of beats the Halo’s as a work of ancient wonder and the Prometheans/whatever ancient power lies sealed away on it are a good step above Monitors/Oracle’s in terms of possible veneration.
So yeah, for religious Covies - Requiem is prolly the biggest thing ever.
“The Sangheili (After the Human Covenant war officially ended) Felt they had no reason to live… They Spent most of their lives before the war and during it, in Combat or Training for it… And then when it ended (Especially the way it did) The elites contemplated suicide… So They devised a plan to re-ignite the fuse for the Human Covenant war in a last ditch effort attempt to serve their purpose (Or at least what they believed was the only purpose in life). They gathered an army in order to Finish what they started and eliminate their humans and their Fellow Sangheili counterparts that were too soft and weak to finish the job.”
Or that was at least my theory…
Because:
-they’re classic
-they’re great opponents
-they add to the lore, being the most fleshed out of the Covie species (particularly in gameplay)
-some Elites are discontent. A war can provide opportunity for a career as well as fulfilling a job. Once it’s over, they may end up losing their purpose
-some Elites have trouble accepting the facts. In fact, most Elites probably still have some degree of belief in the Forerunners
-years of being manipulated by somebody then finally being freed of that influence can make one paranoid and insecure. Basically, some Elites don’t trust humans
-one does not simply kill a religion. A lot of deaths can be seen as martyrdom, strengthening the faith instead of diminishing it. Think about what happens if they succeed in killing Arbiter. I think it’s likely that more Elites would take his side if that were to happen. The only way to put an end to a following is to isolate it. You could also do a purge but it’d have to be carefully done. Another way is to supplant it (Constantine may have done this with Christianity, maintaining his former beliefs in discreet forms).
Personally, I think it’d be an insult to just leave the Elites as they are in Reach. They need better AI and by bringing them back, that will come into fruition.
After the war a minorty of the covenant still believed in the great journey and are still trying to activate the halos . Most likely they’ve come to find and kill the ‘Demon’

The Storm-Covenant go onto the FuD, not for Chief, but for a Forerunner Weapons Cache. And the entire reason they are heading to Requiem is because they find the Didact to be a god and want to revive him.
Frank also said that the Storm are partnered up with the Prometheans meaning the succeed in finding that “God”, well obviously they do.
I guess if the op wants to know he should read the books leading up to H4 and do some work looking on the web.
The guy above me had it right. They believe (a small group of elites)that the didact is a living god and are to use him to get rid of the humans and the elite’s believe we will turn on them first and humans cant be trusted

From what I’ve been hearing, the Covenant is looking for something on Requiem as they believe the Didact is a essentially a God. We’re basically just fighting the Elites that are still following the Covenant belief systems.
From my understanding…
The Storm (A splinter of the Covenant) goes to Requiem to search for the Didact, but encounter Chief on Forward unto Dawn. I don’t think they meant any hostilities at first, but whatever.
Sorry to say but I think they had that question in a bulletin and they said the elites will be speaking their own language. Who knows why maybe like us they also have multiple languages and dialects that were never fully translated. But the grunts I think will speak multiple languages including English given their ability to learn new languages pretty quickly.

Your right. I’m pretty this is what’s happening but the only difference is the covenant had a civil war, the splinter cell factions believe in different things.

redacted because I haven’t read the thursday war snippet
though the ending of glasslands indicates otherwise.
