So When is the Radar Getting Changed?

I’m pretty sure the size of the radar being to small was one of the first things 343 said they were going to change, so as the title states when is this actually getting changed? Of all the issues in the game this is literally the easiest one to do as you can even change it in custom games. As said in pretty much every other post about this 18m is way to small (feels more like 5m but it says 18m) and needs to go back up to 25m.

EDIT: After looking up an article on when 343 said changes were coming, they stated in the article that the changes were only going to be for BTB at the moment and they’d continue to monitor arena so that’s my mistake, though changes haven’t been made to that mode either as BTB I still think is 18m (from the last time I played before the mode broke). My statement does still stand though that I firmly believe the radar does need to be increased to at least around 22m if 25 just isn’t possible.

Why? It’s just a crutch for bad players that don’t have awareness.

This really needs to get changed. I’ve pretty much stopped looking at the radar at this point cause it feels so useless.

And not looking at the radar just proves how much Halo needs one. Between the designs of the maps and their spawns on top of how quick people move in this game, you need a much better warning system than what we currently have.

Just expand the radar at least once. ONCE. Expand it for an Event game mode and see what the feedback is.

It’s not, if you want a larger motion tracker you go back to MCC…

You’re going to need to become more self-aware of your surroundings and less dependent on the motion tracker to do all the work for you unfortunately. This is far more then enough range to be effective at anything around you:

Ya I’ve tried to do the same and not look at it anymore but almost 20 years of muscle memory says otherwise and that’s what always gets me lol. Until it gets changed I’d just rather them remove it to remove the urge to look.

3-4 years is my guess judging by the long list of issues that need to be resolved, their priorities and
343i dev team actually learning how to use/develop their own game engine.

I am actually quite self aware when I play but when I do try to use the radar as a tool and not a reliance, it’s borderline useless when you’re having players not pop up unless they’re pretty much in your face with it being so small. It makes the game feel more like Cod than Halo for how fast players move compared to the other games, not to mention the TTK sometimes being really short in comparison to the other games also can add to the problem but that’s not as big of an issue.

If someone wants a small/non-existent radar that’s what ranked is for but for social it needs to be a bit bigger because as I said above it sure doesn’t feel like 18m and more like 5m.

I find that it works just fine as is. People just have been coddled for years with the larger motion tracker that they’re having trouble adjusting to the size 343i wanted it to be in this game. It’s far from useless if you know how to use it.

I use it all the time to outsmart players in this game. Best ones being where you jump over someone bum rushing corners for a back tap…

The game mode that I think perfectly exemplifies my dislike of the radar’s current range is FFA. Was just doing a match on Recharge and it was absolutely no help.

What was rather infuriating is how a lot of players will run into situations with no shields, try to hide or find a place to recover, but of course since the radar is so small you have no idea that there’s someone coming down the exact way you decided to pick and by the time you realize it you’re already taking that bullet to the brain.

I don’t know how any kind of self-awareness is supposed to make up for bringing any kind of sense to the brawls that tend to happen in that game mode in particular, where you have barely any idea what’s going on in the room you’re about to walk into, how many players there are, or how many more are about to come in because of how chaotic it can get. At least with a larger radar radius you can not only get an idea of the current fight but what you should do when you can see other red blips coming in while the fights are going down - even if you yourself are in the middle of it.

If it works for you that’s great and all the power to you.

Trust me I also use it to outsmart players because I can abuse on how small it is knowing people won’t see me until the last second (reverse also has happened to me) which is why I think it needs to be changed, as at times it’s ridiculously easy to cheese people with it and other times you can’t see the person until they’re basically right in your face. Personally I also find it being smaller promotes camping more compared to the older games.

I think at the very least for the slayer types modes need it changed but I can see objective modes keeping the 18m even though I still think it should be upped to 25m or at the very least 22m.

Smh we NEED a 50m radar so I can see where everyone on the map is at all times. I’m so tired of being meleed by people on the other side of the Halo Ring. 343 please :pensive:

Jokes aside, the radar is fine in 4v4 but I guess it could get a minor increase in BTB. I personally never found any issues with it, but I use max FOV and just use my eyes and ears. I only watch radar in tight areas with possible corner campers, not that it helps if they’re crouching or walking.

Having a maxed out FOV I think would help to some degree, but i just find it weird/trippy personally to use it maxed out but that’s 100% just me. I’m running at about 90 personally.

I agree that the radar needs to be fixed. But I wouldn’t get my hopes up to high though. This is the same team that couldn’t even align the cyber mohawk and visor properly.

FINALLY !

You can actually be aware of your surroundings when you glance down to your radar !

Now I cannot wait until we get the option to lower the crosshair.

My best guess, probably around season 3-5  …so in about 1-2 years :upside_down_face:

…but yeah, in all seriousness, it needs to fixed big time!!! It’s a sad, sad radar. It’s utterly useless!

I don’t recall 343 ever saying they would increase the range. They did change it from a threat tracker to a motion tracker between the first and second flight though, maybe that is what you are thinking of?

It was in the Flight 2 outcomes article they wrote after the second flight. After reading it though I will say I was mistaken and thought they said they were doing it for the whole game but I guess it was just BTB 343 said they are changing, but they still said changes were coming to it that I don’t believe have been made yet as BTB’s radar is still 18m (at least last time I was actually able to get into a match):

After reading the feedback from the previous flight, it was apparent that most players wanted the legacy “Motion Tracker” properties for our social settings. They came back and it landed really well. We’ll keep an eye on it in case sentiment swings away from this, but we’re confident in this choice for launch.

We did see people say that they still felt like they were being caught off guard due to the radius size of the Combat Sensor, with the majority of these reports coming from Big Team Battle. For Arena’s social settings, we didn’t see enough feedback to want to make a fundamental change here ahead of launch but we will continue to monitor it when we launch. For Big Team Battle, we agree and plan on getting this updated from 18m to 22m shortly after launch. So while you may not see it on launch day, please know that it’s absolutely on the way.

I still personally think they should make the arena radar a bit bigger though even if it’s in the middle like 22m if 25 is just not possible. I still am a firm believer that 18m is to small.

Ego much…

Lmao, people will get on their high horse about anything. Radar has always been a large part of Halo’s gameplay. No reason 343 should’ve touched it imo.

This is the problem.

With a radar, you are keeping an eye on 2 things. One is the radar and one is your surroundings.

If the radar is too small, by the time you see the red dot and also be aware of where the enemy is in your surroundings, it’s too late, the enemy is already on top of you. You’re trying to stay aware of 2 things at once and neither one is of real benefit in several cases. May as well not have a radar at all.

They radar should not have great range, however it probably does need to be extended in range at least a couple of metres.

Just my opinion.
